Lost glasses on school trip

Dd2, cerebral palsy, clever sort, so gets little help in school except physical accommodations (desk/ chair/ laptop etc). They went swimming yesterday.

I knew it was going to be a bit of a saga as she has poor self help skills etc, but, to a greater or less extent, I try to be hands off with school. I was relived she got back in one piece!

Apparently she left her glasses at the pool. School realized when she got back to class. The pool say they don't have them.

Surely someone could have checked that the kid with cp had all of her stuff together before they left? That can't be asking too much?

I am cross. I know it's one of those things, and easily done, but I just get the feeling that she isn't considered.

And I don't think the insurance will pay for new ones. Feckity feck. Don't knock the NHS, ladies...

Bloody hell madwoman, I know that feeling really well. I volunteered as the parent helper at Dd3's old school for 12 months before she started to go swimming because I dreaded them taking her without me. I was so scared something would happen to her.

Her first swimming session with the vile yr3 teacher she had, I was there and she was the last one to get dressed teacher pipes up "Oh, come on slow coach" right in front of me. I had had a meeting with her a couple of weeks before about Dd3's coordination and anxiety around getting dressed.

FGS, I hope your Dd's glasses turn up before you shell out for new ones. Why do you think the insurance wont cover the loss??

We have to pay for Dd3's because she has coloured lenses and our insurances definitely covers loss.

We might be able to claim on home insurance, good point... Our med and health stuff is a max of one new pair a year, and she only got them in September. I'll have to check.

The pool have apparently found one pair, but they don't sound like dd2's at all, I'll have to go down there and look. I'm hoping I'm going to find them stuffed in the bottom of her school bag or something, but I'm pretty certain she will have put them on the shelf in the locker, which is what I make her do when we go, so they don't get broken...

Comments like that are sooooo unhelpful. Way to make it even more anxiety inducing. dd2 is y3 as well. She tries so hard, but she does need someone to keep an eye on her.

Did they go on transport or walk there madwoman? Just thinking coach/bus company perhaps?

The ones at the pool may still be hers. We once lost a dog and were told they hadn't found her but had found a German Shepherd puppy. Turned out it was our 9 year old Border Collie cross. Hmm It's amazing how people's descriptions can wildly differ on these things.

madwomanintheattic · 26/06/2012 19:20

Bus. Had thought about that, too. Might call the bus company as well. School seem completely uninterested.

Rofl at 9yo collie cross being confused for GS puppy!

Grin To be fair, she is small, black and tan and has comedy sized feet that look like she needs to grow into them - but really, a GSD puppy? Confused

madwomanintheattic · 27/06/2012 17:32

Found.

No one helped her at all, it turns out. I asked her who was helping her in case they had picked them up etc, but she just looked at me blankly. I guess that's good, in that she managed independently, but I'm a bit ticked that no one was even keeping an eye. Ah well, all's well.

Glad you got them back - were they the ones the pool had?

madwomanintheattic · 27/06/2012 18:33

Nope. Somehow they got on the bus. She doesn't remember having them at all.

I assume she picked them up, but why she didn't put them on is anyone's guess. She's usually got a memory like an elephant, so I'm completely baffled why she told school she'd left them in the changing room of the pool. She even told me she'd definitely left them on the shelf in locker 22 Grin (and tbh, she's normally absolutely right - we all ask her if we need to know anything!) - so I assume she was a bit flappy because she was trying to do everything herself, and so grabbed them but didn't really register she had them, iykwim?

V strange, but frankly, I'm just grateful we have them back!
