I want to apply for the statement, although eveerybody except for the preschool is claiming there is no need..but there is, my son needs a proper shadowing for his own safety. I have downloaded the letter sample from Ipsea, but not sure with the right phrases now..are there any hints as what to include to have more chances of success?

You need to say your child has 'severe and complex needs' i.e. deficits in a number of areas (e.g. social development, knowledge and understanding of the world, language, motor skills etc) - often you need to tick boxes in a number of EYFS categories

Look at SEN Code of Practice Section 4 - you need to show inadequate progress or that needs are so severe and complex that they cannot be met without a statement (4.36). Ideally you want to use 4.36 as then you don't have to go through the graduated approach of dripping in provision bit by bit but can argue the needs are so obviously beyond the ability of a nursery to cater for from their usual resources a Statement is required. Also state that the difficulties are such as they are likely to require significant support throughout the entirety of his school life and into adulthood
