Very picky to start with - you can always compromise on the less crucial stuff later.
Look at ACE guide to getting a statement right and the quality standard guidance for writing statements (link is on the same ACE page)

I wrote a bullet-pointed list of what my childs needs are (backed up by carefullly picking out bits of professional reports that supported my beliefs). That basically makes up Part 2 of his Statement, as I didn't trust anyone else to get it right.

For Part 3, there was some two-ing and fro-ing. Make sure the support is quantiified and specified. You want the support or therapies or whatever your child is to receive very clearly laid out and you need to know when, how and by whom it will be delivered, how often. This must go in the Statement to make it worth the paper it is written on. Lots of locala uthroties will try it on with vague, wooly statements like 'Child is to receive termly input from a Speech & language Therapist, which could mean as little as the SALT gives a a few handouts to the teacher each term.

Don't be afraid to be super nit-picky and if in doubt, consult IPSEA.

Have a wooly part about the hours. It is the basic hours statement eg no of hours divided between 1:1, group and class situations. Can I specify 1:1 for all school hours? Can I say she cannot share a TA with a whole class, (she needs constant supervision) all reports say she needs it. Should I get the hours specified. Do I tell LA what I want? What if they disagree?

UPSEA?
