Bad luck! It's been Half Term here this week and mine has been niggling with the extra lifting. I find it's the lifting into the car seat that gets me. Hope it's feeling easier soon.

anniebear · 26/02/2006 15:03

The car seat is a killer isn't it?

Funnily enough I was only thinking today that I should get some advice on how to lift properly, but is there a way to lift your sn child correctly!?!

Fortuantly Ellie is mobile, but I still find I have to lift her into the car and give her a lot of help on other things

Hope your back gets better soon

Teaching staff have to attend lifting & handling courses so perhaps we should ask them or our physios if there's anything happening in our areas. Don't know what weights your DDs are? Mine is around 16kg which isn't too bad when she's in a cooperative mood but feels more if she isn't. I do have a Hipseat but tend only to use it when out .......as buzylizy says it takes so long.

i was shown how to lift her(only because the link family were shown!) But she is getting big now. I find the car a nightmare(roll on June)
I will just have to start hoisting trouble is I still find that hurts as you have to get her in the right position

I am finding it hard to lift DS and DD1 into their carseats now, they are mobile but find it hard to get into the seats, so I have to lift them, am only 5ft tall myself, and weigh 7 st, so lifting a child who is half my weight is getting hard. My back is niggling now.

doormat · 27/02/2006 12:42

cant lift ds2 at all, havent been able to for a long time
have no hoist
he is nearly 9 and weighs over 25kg
ss and physio know the score and have done nothing to allieviate situation

it is all left to my dh to lift him up and down the stairs

anniebear · 27/02/2006 14:11

Doormat

Thats so terrible

A lady at Ellies School had to do fundraising to raise £3500 for 4 hoists and a stair lift as she ahs two Children with SN and in wheel chairs

I think it is awful Sad

buzylizy · 27/02/2006 15:17

that it really bad why won't they help you. I always thought getting hoist's was easy as they know that if you so your back in they will have to pay for help. I would kick up a stink. It can't be safe to carry a shild of 9 up the stairs,(Sorry I know you know this just I get so mad at want parents have to put up with)
