Ds is driving me crazy with throat clearing every few minutes. And it wasn't until ds started with it that I realised that dh does it too. So I've got the pair of them throat clearing every few seconds. GRrrrrrrrrr.

Oh dear shopping, you have a bucket load of sympathy from me.

Dd3 has a throat clearing tic/stim. It comes and goes depending on her stress levels.

Is your Ds stressy ATM?

shoppingbagsundereyes · 21/06/2012 18:46

Very, although I've no idea why. He's been extra control freaking this week. The throat clearing appeared about a week ago, am looking forward to its swift disappearance. Makes me desperate to clear my own throat- am resisting.

oh! definately sniffing! or then there is knuckle cracking ugh! I put up with DS throat clearing rather than those lol

KOKOagainandagain · 21/06/2012 19:32

No - I can tune out the throat clearing and sniffing but the snorting has causal effects - ie clearing any paper in proximity - and this is definately harder to ignore when trying to do homework. Grin

KOKOagainandagain · 21/06/2012 19:34

Seriously when stressed DS is like a human leaf-blower!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 21/06/2012 19:43

throat clearing, sniffing knuckle cracking all awful, especially if you have more than one person in the house doing it!

Thanks for the pillow permission Coff Grin when we first got together he used to do whale flips in the middle of the night so I guess I should be grateful for the throat clearing

I used to have that tic and still get an itchy throat when i see it mentioned :O

Having 2 boys constantly kicking the dining table at mealtimes can drive me nuts - specially if my legs get in their way (on the other side of the table!)

Nothing beats noisy eating, though. Ex H was a noisy eater. I had to leave the room because it made me want to punch him. The kids are a little noisy, but nothing sitting next to the radio won't drown out.

Leonie - you made me smile with the flapping description, sounds just like my DD, arms rigid by sides, only flapping from the elbows, if that makes sense. I really did think that she would take off sometimes!

Pleased to say that she does it less and less now. But it also means that I can't bear to watch Riverdance or anything similar.....

Keeponkeepingon - LOL at human leafblower!

As to pillows, could cheerfully use one on DH due to his snoring!

madwomanintheattic · 21/06/2012 21:30

oh dear god, the dining table. i can barely eat some days, and have to stick my leg out to form a physical barrier. better i get tapped or kicked as it's quiet than the constant rhythmic knocking.

the noisy ones are the worst, but the one that makes me literally apoplectic is the rolly eye thing.

ds does a kind of glottal swallow that is reasonably spectacular, too.

madwomanintheattic · 21/06/2012 21:35

i have an actual tapdancer living here lol. she literally taps all day long, everywhere she goes, whether she's in wellies, flip flops, or her actual tap shoes. she does it without realising.

bizarrely, i have no problem with that at all. but it drives dh round the bend.

i find it really funny what our tolerance levels are - if she does it on the table, i can't deal with it, but she can tapdance round the house and i don't care... but any sort of tapping turns dh into a banshee.

Ineedalife · 22/06/2012 16:28

Oh yeah, humming while eating and chomping!! They could drive me bonkers but I can switch off but Dd2 just goes berserk at the chomping.

Off topic I know but yesterday Dd3 was sitting sideways on her chair with one foot on it and her knee under her chin, eating her tea.

I just dont think she is ever going to grasp sitting at the tableConfused.

EveryPicture · 23/06/2012 08:24

I have one sniffer which I find I just tune out but it drives other people nuts.

I have one constant mover. Rolling, legs in the air. People tell tell him to stop but when he stops they then realise he talks constantly and very very shouty Grin

used2bthin · 23/06/2012 10:11

DH has tics, he says its like an urge he can't surpress, there are a few I don't mind and find endearing but am with zzz on the sniff and snort! Also throat clearing. DD1 has picked up the sniffing too which is funny-for now!

coff33pot · 23/06/2012 16:20

I also have a screamer that has stood up the hair on any unsuspecting souls head Grin

It happens due to sudden urge to release energy to keep him in one spot when he wants to finish something.

Every jumps but me lol
