Anyone who has applied for DLA lately

How long did you get it for?
Just done dd1 renewal and been given it till she's 18!!
While of course I'm very very happy not to have to fill in another form, the negative one in me thinks they have done that knowing they are changing rules in a few years Blush

So anyone else get it for long time?

Wow well done Lisa :)

We only got 3 years when we applied last year. That was our first application.

Just had my youngest's through again, he's got it until he's 16. hopefully his autism will have all cleared up by then, eh Grin

I am a bit peeved by the low rate mobility, since it says he's been awarded it because he needs help in "unfamiliar places" when I clearly stressed over and over - and the entire tree's worth of reports submitted all said the same - that he needs help whenever he is out the house, regardless how well he knows a place, because he is unsafe. So he knows the park at the end of the road really well - but no way on earth could I open the door and let him walk there!

I think you need to demonstrate that your child is a danger to others too tbh so if your ds would push someone into the road to press the button on the crossing you need to emphasise that and if they would slap someone who got in their way or got too close you need to say so. I think that is added weight rather than always needing to be accompanied.

Ah, that may be it. He's really more a danger to himself - to the point where when he's out with school he's on 2:1. The only danger really to others is if they get hit by a lorry when running out into the road after him when he's decided to leg it!

He probably would shove someone! He does it in other situations, but i have no evidence for that because he hasn't pushed anyone into a road or anything. Yet.

DD has middle rate care, but NO award for mobility. Hmm

DLA is coming up for renewal (was awarded for 3 years after ASD diagnosis) and I am hoping to get at least Lower rate mobility; since my first DLA application I have received a report which states that she needs full time 1:1 at school, on safety grounds, as in the event of an evacuation, she would not be able to exit the building independently.

She is certainly a danger to herself when out and about; NO road sense whatsoever, NO sense of direction at all.

TheTimeTravellersWife · 18/06/2012 16:41

But no a danger to others, unless you take into account an accident caused by a car swerving to avoid her!

Well ds has HRM and has and would do again all the things I have written without a second thought tbh. He's 17 now and it's a nightmare because what would just about tolerated when small would end in disaster now. He is doing well now at his specialist school and they are out and about most days and I have noticed his tolerance increasing so who knows maybe it won't happen again? I'm just not sure how long it will take me to believe that though.
