Oh and any tips anyone. I told Ds1 yesterday and this morning that he was going to granny and grandad's today. My mum is now ill- she has vertigo- prob an inner ear infection. He is saying every 5 minutes "going to granny and grandad's" and I think he is going to lose it big time soon. Help! Can't take him out as dh is going to be decorating so can't manage both boys by myself. Only Tescos- with double trolleys can be done- but then I would have to drive right past my mum and dad's house so that's an obvious no-no.

help!

Go for a walk to the park?
What normally distracts him? Food? Water play? Some annoying toy that you normally hide away!?
Can you invite friend of his over to play (away from dh of course!)

can't do the park with both boys - it's a nice day so it'll be too crowded. All his friend's are autistic so no chance with decorating going on- and can't go to visit friend I would usually as her ds is ill. He's just walking round saying "going to see granny and grandad" over and over again aggghhh. I was really pleased he'd "got it" earlier.

Oh poor you jimjams! Any chance you could go to your parents just for a while and not disturb your mum, or does it have to be for a normal length visit? That way you could go briefly and then Tesco on the way back having averted the crisis? I hope he's alright (and you!).

Jimjams · 07/12/2003 10:21

I'm beginning to think that's what we'll have to do tamum! We have loads of decorating to do (that's why m and d were going to have them for the day) so its a pain!

see if you can go for a short while??

coppertop · 07/12/2003 10:33

Leave ds2 with dh and have a really short visit?

coppertop · 07/12/2003 10:45

That way your mum doesn't get overwhelmed while poorly.

Davros · 07/12/2003 11:33

I think I would beg your mum to let you visit for a short while. Maybe DS1 can take her some flowers or a picture, to reinforce the idea that she's not well? Mine wouldn't understand that at all but I still might do it anyway as you never know what goes in and may get associated in the future.

phew- the room's stopped spinning, mum and dad will have them after lunch. Which is a relief as ds1 has just started his "go and see granny and grandad" routine again, having paused to stim over the washing machine.

That's an idea! your must really love your SIL! I felt a bit guilty dropping them off as mum looked quite ill, but she insisted and seemed fine when she dropped them back. We finished decorating ds2's room anyway.

glad it worked out jimjams

Jimjams · 07/12/2003 21:51

Yeah. My mum is an absolute superstar. Without her I would really crack up. She really is fantastic. never think I can thank her enough so I'll just say it on here.

Hope your mum gets better soon jimjams. My parents came to visit today and ds kept saying he wanted to go with them. As they left he got into their car and got his booster seat out and was all set to go.

Usually if we can't go to my parents for whatever reason I say they are on holiday.

Davros · 07/12/2003 23:54

How funny and sweet Eulalia! I like Maryz's idea of the video too.
