They cancelled last meeting due to paper work not being handed in from ep, but contacted me yesterday to tell me they had a cancellation for today..could we come in so they can discuss what they are plan to do. Needless to say I instantly agreed!

Now I am sat here my heart racing, feeling sick, and I am sick of rushing to the loo Blush.I am scared, nervous, ready to go on the defensive if needs must!

Can't believe what a state I am in! surely this should be a pivitol moment...the "yes we can confirm something is definatly going on therefore the school were right all along and you are not losing your marbles"! or "you have made something out of nothing"! which to be truthful would not surprise me in the slightest...

Just wanted to share!!!

Well everyone, after gathering all of their info camhs have decided to put ds on the waiting list for assessment for asd as he fits the triad but they did keep stressing he was still v young and that a label lasts forever, I already know this...do they really think it is something that I want??.

They gave us a run down of the assessment process which included a parental interview which will last roughly 3 hours...that should be interesting I find it mentally and pysically draining to go back through the red flags that I was too stupid to notice until outsiders slapped me in the face with it.

Now my stomach is in knots for some strange reason...like something doesn't feel right...weird

See, I don't understand this. If he meets the triad, then he has ASD, so why not just give a Dx? Why the delay?

Can you get them to put it in writing or give a working Dx and tell you how long the waiting list will be?

They sound a bit reluctant and that worries me.

coff33pot · 13/06/2012 11:31

The fact that he is young and if he gets an early dx then he stands good chance of getting help early on in. Quote early intervention is important in your conversations.

Who would be doing the assessment? Would it be a multi disiplinary team at camhs? Ask them should he receive a dx of asd what would be camhs next step?

I would definately do what star suggests and ask them to put in writing a working dx. Tell them at least with that in the meantime then his school could possibly get in the Autism Team into school for advice on strategies on how to treat him with more understanding.

It is a wierd feeling. I always left fighting with myself when I left a camhs appointment x

feelinchirpier · 13/06/2012 11:37

The information they collected was from myself, school, and the ep who assessed him BUT I think the majority of the information which led him to fit the triad was from some info which I gave them....things which had stuck in my mind as he was developing, reactions to certain stimuli which we just thought was our ds character...at the end of the day theres plenty of things I like/dislike and ds is very similar to dh (I do not mean to sound ignorant but until 2 years ago I knew OF autism but I did not know ABOUT autism...if that makes any sense at all) etc so technically camhs knowing that up until 2 years ago we did not see any cause for concern I suppose that is why they want to see for themselves...incase we have made ds fit???, well thats my theory at the moment.

bugger wrote a massive post then lost internet!

Hi coff33pot!

Not sure about multi disciplinary team but she said plan of action would be parental interview, play based observation of ds, school observation of structured/un-structured time, and if there was anything they were still unsure of then a home visit.

The ep which assessed my ds has kept his file open because she wants to continue to revisit him (her specialist area is asd...i'm sure that was what she said lack of sleep is seriously playing with my memory!) she actually trained up along side the camhs team we are with so whether they have some kind of agreement going on between each other I am not sure??

Ds currently has SULP at school which I am quite sure is delivered by the ASD team (this is off the top of my head...don't have the paper work with me).
