Requested school for my sons current attainment levels and mock SAT scores, the levels were sent home in a letter with my son. I am confused as I was expecting levels such as 2a,3b etc in that format instead got the following, can someone explain what they mean.
Current teacher assessment levels
Reading : 4.1
Writing : 3.2
Numeracy : 4.0
Science : 4.1

SATS Practice scores
Reading : 4.1
Writing : 3.1
Numeracy : 3.9
Science : Absent

Literacy overall 3.6

Never seen levels in this format now confused as these will part of evidence at tribunal and I don't know what they mean in comparison to his attainment levels.

Thanks
Nick

Can you post on the primary education board?

To me, they sound made up or code!

4s are all low 4s ie 4cs. 3.1 is 3c, as is 3.2. 3.9 is 3a. Overall literacy is 3b. Ps am a teacher!

Thanks, is this a standard formation as this is the first time I've seen this given in this format. Have they done this to confuse us, I mean sent with no explanation just like his IEPS but that is another story.

Most schools give full level then a sub-level - a,b,c. However, some schools break the sub levels down further eg 1-12. Effectively
.1-.4. = a,
.5-.8 =b

.9-.12 = c

Alter accordingly if your school uses 1-9

It's fairly meaningless really, it must make sub-levelling extremely difficult for teachers.

nickminiink · 11/06/2012 22:50

Thanks for your replies, our school has never reported in this way before, always a,b or c.
Minx179, you state 1-4 is an equivalent a, but sick advises a 3.1 is a c, so still confused

4.1 = just into the 4s (therefore a top 4 AKA 4c)
4.9 = nearly at the 5s (therefore top 4 AKA 4a)

it goes 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, 4.9 then 5.0, 5.1 etc. so I am also totally Confused by minx's a, b and c and corresponding numbers.

I have never heard of the low numbers (.1, .2) equalling the top of that level. In my LA, and nationally AFAIK, I have described it as it is.

Best thing to do is to ask the school though if you don't want to take my word for it...

nickminiink · 12/06/2012 07:07

Sick I appreciate your help and only questioned your reply because of Minx1979 reply. I have no reason not to take your word for it ad you ate a teacher so thankyou. Trying not to talk to the school too much cud of the Tribunal on Friday and then appear to be doing the same
Thanks again
