Yes, they're not back at school, yet. So Monday is tomorrow and I'm on my second Sunday in a row with DS1. I can't even get him out for a walk because he insists it's going to rain.

And i guess the lunch dishes aren't going to get washed just yet.

Deep breaths....

Well if you were at my house you would be putting on your wellies and going out with an umbrella as it has been raining since last night and shows no signs of stopping.

Commiserations with being stuck in.

DS1 Disapproves of rain.

I took the edge off my frustration with some angry vacuuming. Of course, he disapproves of that, too, but by that point I just yelled back that he wasn't going to dictate my every move all day. So he hid under the sofa bed for a while, just coming out to disapprove of where I'd moved various bits of furniture to.

I remembered that I'd suggested we looked at Father's day cards on our walk and said we ddn't have to. 15 minutes later, he said he wanted to go, now.

And you know what? It had rained. Not heavily, but it was drizzly. So we got out, anyhow, after DS2 had scratched and pinched me and then headbutted me in the face when I turned him round and held onto his hands but didn't stand up fast enough.

DS2 was excited and leapt and squealed all the way to the doctor's, almost pulling me over several times. Meanwhile, DS1 careered blindly towards every puddle and pile of dog dirt he could find.

Prescriptions collected, I needed to get to the shop. DS2 didn't want to go that way. So he started wailing. The wailing lasted half an hour. DS1 can't stand DS2's wailing and was shouting "he's crying for nothing!" over and over and bouncing around even more than usual. Then it started raining again.

I've been cudlding DS2 on the sofa, with CBeebies on and it's topped the wailing. DS1 is constantly moaning that it's a repeat from this morning, though. And I've just had to send DS2 away because he's started pinching me again.

And there goes the wailing again...

I hear it's quite acceptable to down a whole bottle of wine and leave your kids in the pub.

Half term doesn't half present some challenges.

I often say the neighbours must think I'm a bad mother because of the wailing/shouting that goes on. Sometimes, there is just nothing you can do.

Well done on actually getting out. I was lucky enough to get 20 minutes to go to the supermarket on my own today. Fastest (and happiest) food shop of all time.

Hope you feel ok. One more week to go. We can do it!

I've got a splitting headache. DS2's opening and closing drawers while DS1 mutters at him for it. And I think he's just created a smelly for me. Oh, and now he's tearing paper. Can you tell he's bored? I can't engage him in anything constructive. He just starts pinching me or pushes me away.

Thankfully, they go back tomorrow, which is half the reason for DS1's mood. He hates school. I can't even make a fuss of DS2 being back tomorrow (he loves school) because that'll make him worse.

Anyhow, time to don my hard hat, gum shield and gas mask and deal with the stink.

Well, hang on to that. Things will be a tiny bit better tomorrow.

I also have a paper-tearer, sellotape user and wipe wringer - he likes to keep his hands busy. I've learnt to sit here in chaos and not constantly tidy up. Just do a quick swipe when they have gone to bed.

I hope your headache gets better soon.

If I went around the boys cleaning up after them all the time, I'd go mad!! Blush Other than dreadful messes, I just take care of it after they go up to bed.

ouryve · 11/06/2012 16:52

A digestive biscuit helped the headache. And we have relative calm, now - DS1's brought the big box of lego in and DS2's been hunting for windows and is doing some sort of war dance around them! I've even managed to wash the dishes without Something happening.

DS2 actually tied all the toys into the toy boxes while I was making lunch. DS1 tipped them all out when he went off on one, after lunch! My limit for mess is when I can't safely walk across the room.

As for the first day back at school - I prefer the second. The first is usually a write off.

The bottle of wine at lunchtime sounds most tempting - only I'd be asleep after half of it.
