Are you wanting the AR asap or are you happy with a delay?

robotCS · 10/06/2012 11:56

no I'm not bothered about when it is - but I would like to have school's advice beforehand

Do all school's sent advice out before the AR?

Have got DS2's first one on 26th, just had a letter from school inviting me to the AR. No reports sent to me or anything.

The SEN COP states that all reports etc should be circulated to all including the parents two weeks before the annual review.

You can write to the SENCO and ask when you are to expect them, and how she is planning to handle the delay!?

This happened to me. 2 weeks before AR, not one report received. Angry

So I contacted the school and all the professionals involved, quoted the COP and told them that the meeting was cancelled, due to the fact that they had not complied with the requirements fo the COP, which put me at a considerable disadvantage in the AR process (as they had the benefit of being able to read and consider our parental views) and asked them to provide dates for their availability taking into consideration when they would be in a position to submit their reports in good time.

At the next year's AR all the reports were received on time! That learnt 'em! Smile

I haven't sent my advice in yet...kind of wanted to see what they were saying first!

I don't believe there is anything in the COP that states a duty for the parent to submit advice in advance.

TheTimeTravellersWife · 10/06/2012 17:22

No, I don't think there is, but I was chased up by the school to submit our views - I suppose that I was trying to set a good example! Wink

It should really be a simultaneous exchange, to be fair to everyone, but I felt distinctly at a disadvantage, as they had an opportunity to read our views well in advance of the meeting.

I also experienced an AR when a professional handed me their report at the meeting!

I was very unimpressed with that, but smiled sweetly, put the report away in my file and told them that I would read it and give them any views within 14 days, and said what a pity that we wouldn't be able to discuss their views on DD in any depth at the meeting, as I hadn't had the opportunity to read the report thoroughly!

The professionals know the rules, they just try it on.

okay - so I can ask school for copies of their views and not submit mine till after?

Technically yes.

But demanding your right to do this might be a bit difficult. If that is what you want to do, it might be best to submit a few things in advance but a full report on the day/after you have seen the reports etc.
