How do you sleep at night when you lots on your mind?

I havent been able to sleep for the last 3 nights, not getting to sleep until about 4am, then up again at 7am.

I have a lot on my mind and i just cant switch off.

Ive tried hot bath, warm drinks, some relaxation techs i use on ds, not doing anything too stimulating before bed etc, etc but its not working. I have ordered myself a book to read at bedtime to see if this helps.

So what do you do to help you sleep when you have a lot going on?

Glad you had a better night last night claw. I love listening to the rain in the night too, DS1 even listens to rain on his computer while he is doing 'coding and other stuff', he finds it relaxing!

:)

Rain works for me as well. I sleep best in the camper (which has a tin top roof) in a big old rainstorm.

Unfortunately dh hates the window open and we have huge great eaves that overhang our windows so don't get that lovely pattering sound on the glass.

Mind you, after last night dh might give in, he was not at all happy this morning that I kept him awake all night with my tossing and turning.

Glad you had a better night claw. Smile

Glad you got some sleep claw :)

I am watching this thread as tbh I just dont sleep lol

All through dx process and now statement then pulling ds out of school along with a meeting this week re junior transition my mind is constantly on the go with remembering meets and reports and god knows what. Let alone day to day.

Now on fluoxetine which helps but although calmer day time means I am more agitated at night lol.

Although I have to admit I enjoy the solitude of being up at night when no one else is around.

I take Nytol 3 or 4 times a week. Probably not ideal but I feel a lot healthier than I do when I'm sleep deprived.

moosemama · 11/06/2012 21:18

I have just dug a packet of Nytol out of the back of the cupboard to try tonight.

Interestingly I noticed you can't take them if you are already on propranolol or anti-depressants.

Have just taken a couple and will see what happens. Don't think they helped at all last time I tried though.

No sleep here again, so I can definitely scrub Nytol off my list. Harrumph!

claw4 · 12/06/2012 09:36

Oh Moose, it is so draining when you cant sleep isnt it. I find myself becoming very forgetful when i havent slept.

I will have to post the CAMHS relaxation techs on this thread, to see if they can help someone.
