We've got Lottie on IQ oils. 1 teaspoon in her milk at the end of the day.

just got the falax and it is not suitable for children under 2. dd is just 16 months. Anyone advise me on IQ oils - do they have a recommended age limit?!?!?!

Just reopened this thread because I've just found the eyeq micro-capsules & flavoured oil in Boots. DS1 (16) wont take the normal capsules- he can't swallow them. Just given him the micro ones & he's gagging & heaving!!! He doesn't like the taste of the oil. I give up!!!!

DS2 (14) took both quite happily but moaned that the taste of the oil doesn't go away.

eidsvold · 24/01/2004 11:47

although dd is much younger than your ds I put them in her cereal or drink.. and she quite happily takes the oil - don't know whether she can still taste it but oyu can certainly smeel the fish in her cereal.

You can buy things like malt extract with cold liver oil in health food shops. I take that! Not for babies becuase of the vitamin A content but would be fine for a strapping young lad of 16.

Hello all,
I've become a bit of an expert on this subject recently. The wee girl I look after (nanny) is 2 years 3 months and has development problems, she's way behind and althought my employers don't know what's up yet, they've been trying omega 3 to try and help. I have to be honest it really has had a big effect on her. She's actually caught up by 2 months in her development already and her language and general awareness is so much better. I also have a daughter who is 20 months and I've started her on it too. She was prone to hitting, and headbutting (thought it was really funny). Within days of taking 2 ml spoons of EyeQ she had more or less stopped and began to hug me all the time! Also she began to be able to concentrate on whole story books at a time and her language has really come on. There are big differences between the different types which say they contain Omega 3. I started my DD on the boots children's Omega 3 which after enquiring at boots.com who said I could give my DD half a spoon a day. I didn't like the idea of giving her cod liver oil which contains too much of certain vitamins and didn't notice such a difference with her on that. Then after watching Dr. Winston's "Child of our time" I saw that they used EyeQ and I remembered they've used that type in other studies. It's because it's high in EPA which is the important thing to look for!! Also it's totally pure and that's important too. Also if the oil's been exposed to air during the making that can destroy some of the nutrients and EyeQ has not. I also take flax seed oil capsules myself as they contain twice the amount of Omega 3 and don't give you horrible fishy burps! Yuck! I get them on www.zipvit.co.uk and that website is so cheep! I've noticed a huge improvement in my short term memory and definately find it easier to concentrate. Zipvit also have large Omega 3 1000 mg capsules which contain the same amounts of EPA as eyeQ at a much cheeper price. These are great for older kids who can take large capsules and adults. Try the website www.equazen.com to read all the testimonials about special needs children who have taken the suppliment. Also 2 more points to make... Firstly I emailed EyeQ about the quantities to take when my child is young and they said it's the same as adults. The only difference with little ones is that you have to introduce it a bit slowly. You start with 1 5ml spoon of the oil and after a week give 2 5ml spoons and see how the child gos. Then you can up it to 3 5ml spoons if the child tollerates it (doesn't get sick or dyhorrea) each child is different and will tollerate it differently. Lastly try giving the vanilla flavoured eyeQ in a pot of fromage frais. It goes down well with my babe who gagged like crazy when I gave it to her straight! Good luck and if you want to see a copy of the email from eyeQ then email me at [email protected]

hello there,i have been giving my son something called "smartfish".it can be bought at higher nature.co.uk.It comes in a little sachet and my son loves it.it leaves no aftertaste and is orange flavour.i have tried lots of other products but he always complained of the aftertaste.he loves to take this though.the kids love opening the sachet and squeezing out the contents.hope this helps .

You can give Eskimo kids oil from age 1 and only need one spoon as it's quite concentrated. It has a similar ration of EPA:DHA to EyeQ.
