Ds (AS, 9) was assessed by an independent SLT recently, and she recommended the following for "poor oro-motor and sequencing skills affecting clarity of speech".

They are not cheap, and I wondered if they were worth getting? Thank you!

Hazey. I am mum on PC and mama on iPad - too lazy to log in and out!

Are you getting medical imput re the slowness of DS digestive system. Is cgh a genetic test or something else? I am clueless on genetic stuff. [dozy face emoticon] !

hazeyjane · 14/06/2012 13:20

aaah, that explains it (I am 'mum', when it is being shouted down the stairs, and 'mama', when my dds have done something they know will get them told off!)

Nothing has been done wrt to ds's digestive system, apart from meds for acid reflux. I mentioned the constipation/impaction(?) to his gp the other day, and she seemed to think that as long as it doesn't cause him pain, then there is no need to address it. However, I do think it keeps him awake at night, sometimes, he has been restless, and drawing his knees up throughout the night, before he does a poo. It is also difficult to pinpoint the cause of pain, when there is no speech, and when he screams and cries a lot!

Oh and a cgh array, is a genetic test.

If I didn't go to the loo for 3 days and that giant poo was just sitting there I would be uncomfortable too! Apart from simple dietary things that you are intelligent enough to work out, I'm not sure what you can do without medical advice eg movicol. Again I am also dozy in the bowel department as we are reasonably OK in that area!

hazeyjane · 14/06/2012 19:35

'dozy in the bowel department' just about sums it up!

I try to give him lots of fruit purees (the only way he will eat it), and give him dilute prune juice, but tbh his diet is pretty ;imited, which doesn't help.I will look into Movicol. I have also started a poo diary - such a life of glamour!

sneezecakesmum · 14/06/2012 20:02

With such slow transit (nicely put!) I would look at maybe GP to medically manage things if dietary stuff doesnt help. Lots of fluids is a good start. It is dire if children wont eat much...been there with the DGS and have sat and cried and got cross with him Blush when I had to feed him and DD was at work. He did manage to poo but every few days and a lot of straining so not good for him.

Spoke to the gp today. She said the consultant had been in touch and wants to try ds on domperidone for his reflux. The gp said it should help with the efficiency of his digestion overall, but if it doesn't then we should probably introduce some movicol. Thankyou for your help and listening to ds's poo woes!

Sneezecakesmama · 16/06/2012 11:21

So pleased that things looking up and you were listened to. Don't underestimate the magnitude of poo problems! Hope you are on the way to an easier life!

Hi hazeyjane

Just wondered how your ds went on to develop their feeding/swallowing. We had similar type videoflouroscopies - and just seems everyone's drawn a cross against every trying our dd on anything oral. Want to know if talktools or salt or anything can be of help?
