DS2 always has very dark wee, really really dark brown in the morning & brown the rest of the time.
I try to get as much fluid in him as possible, he never asks for drinks but we prompt him constantly & he is pretty good at drinking when told to.
So other than dehydration is there anything else that causes really brown wee.

he never moans about pain when weeing or anything, but i dont know if he would tell us?

I really dont fancy trying to catch a sample from him so was just after some wise words from you wise ladies

Is he on any medications?

I'd talk to your GP about this. There are a lot of possible reasons for dark urine.

i suppose if it has always been like this he should be fine. However I did get ds' wee tested once to check. I lined the loo with cling film and then collected a sample from the wee pooled at the bottom! I was quite impressed with this ingenious solution as there was no way ds would have let me collect it any other way.

I think you should ask a GP. It doesn't sound right.....

starfishmummy · 07/06/2012 20:38

could it be anything he is eating or a medicine that he has?
Otherwise i think I would speak to your gp.

It has always been dark but does seem to be darker lately. I think im avoiding going to the GP.
Cansu - I'm loving your clingfilm idea!!

He takes, gaviscon, lactulose, asthma inhalers & a prescription paracetamol medicine.
He is nearly 10 has mild CP, autism, learning difficulties etc etc.

That's very inventive cansu!!

Def get it checked. Lots of things it could be, even maybe meds colouring it, but also lots of things that need checking out. Maybe the GP would give you a multistix to test wee mid-flow if getting a sample is too hard?

Is he retaining? We had this - urine was retained in the bladder and became very strong - can you just monitor how often he 'goes' - even if you can't do quantities?
You will be asked to write down input and output I'm afraid!

slacklucy · 07/06/2012 20:51

will keep an input & output diary for a couple of days. Be hard to measure quantity but can measure frequency.
You can't miss noticing when ds2 goes to the loo, he stomps through, leaves the door wide open, wee's everywhere & never flushes cos he doesnt like the noise! Think i need to work on his toilet habits :)
