Following on from another thread where some people have talked about their Dc's amazing memories, it fanscinates me and is also funny the things they remember like lamp posts.

So because I am bored, sick of rain and should be doing my work that I brought home. Here goes:

The Dd's have amazing memories. Dd1 once remembered the 16 digit number on my debit card Hmm, I had lent it to her briefly once to order something online. About a week later I caught her ordering something else and asked her how she was paying for it and she said "your card its ok I know the number!!"Shock.

She had also memorized all the times tables and could turn them around in her head and use them to divide by the time she was 5, scary.

Dd3 remembers directions to places and tells me off if I go thewrong a different way and she is also a walking shopping list. I just tell her what we need and she remembers. LOL

Lol, that is truly amazing a real life 'rain man'........... you better keep checking your bank statement though Grin. Could do with your dd3 because i have no sense of direction whatsoever and never ever remember what shopping i need, would be too easy to make a list lol.

Ds used to give directions before he was three by making clicking sounds like the indicator on the car and looking at which direction we should go. If dh ever thought of taking a diversion he'd get out of his car seat to attack him.Now he's our personal sat nav but gets really irritated if anybody takes a wrong turn but only speaks up afterwards to berate them rather than say something beforehand.
Watching football is like a constant download of facts and figures as he'll launch into no end of statistics on players and grounds that he's memorised and it's just the same for the Grand Prix and his newly acquired tennis interest.

No-one has ever beaten DS on a memory game. Ever. And we have ALL tried

insanityscratching · 07/06/2012 19:09

Ds is unbeatable a rummy because he memorises every card turned over and every card everybody picks up. Then when he's won as he invariably does he'll say "you wanted a king but the fourteenth card turned over was a king and she picked up a jack and a queen so probably has a king as well so you were never going to win"

ds uses echolalia a lot in conversations, I am now quite adept at distinguishing, I ask what programme is that from? he will say, spongebob, chowder etc and will then tell me the actual episode as well.

Wow this is all amazing. I'm still to find ds2's "talent" other than smiling!! But im amazed at your dc

I mentioned in the thread that this was inspired by that DS1 whos every streetlight and window everywhere he goes regularly. He scours google streetview and comments on ones which have changed. (Of course, this means that I have to kepe him in grab distance while we've walking around the village because he's certainly not paying any attention to the traffic or other people or what he's about to step in)

My parents, who we visit just 3 or 4 times a year, moved when he was 4. He went into a blind panic when we took a different turning off a particular roundabout to get to their new house, around his 4th birthday.

DS2 stashes things all over the place - and remembers. He'll appear to forget about if for weeks or month, but then stumbles across one of a set of something and instantly goes to remove the rest of it from its hideyhole. He doesn't stop until he has the exact set and can become quite distressed if one item is missing. He definitely knows the fourness of four etc. even if there's no other evidence that he can count.

And DS1 keeps beating me at Popmaster Blush

I am really glad everyone is enjoying this thread, after the mixed week I have had with Dd3 and the flippin awful weather I needed cheering up a bit.

ouryve Dd3 likes to have sets of things too and she always remembers how many she has got like 96 marbles Grin

shazian I used to keep regular checks on my bank account after I discovered Dd1 hidden talentGrin. She has her own place now so I don't worry so much.

DS2 is wikipedia. Seriously. His memory is pretty much savant level and he clicks on a link, memorises it in a second..clicks... etc etc

It ONLY works for his obsessions tho.. not for useful daily life! He is also fixated with dates, which now and again IS useful!! It fascinates me that quite a few children with ASD have extraordinary memory skills..I often wonder if it because they are able to be ignore the world and concentrate on them!

Ineedalife · 07/06/2012 21:59

Yes medusa funny that isnt it, Dd3 cant remember where she left her school jumper or violin book but she can remember how many play people she has with brown hair or how many red marbles are in the box.Grin
