So far, I have read Hanen " More than Words' & Shramm " Motivation & Reinforcement". I have also just ordered Temple Grandin's books.
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations of other books to read?

What kind of information are you seeking?

I thoroughly recommend the SEN COP Grin

Martian in the playground is good at exploring the MS/SS thing and if your Dx is ASD you might want to read the National Autism Plan!

Star, thank you for your reply. I will get started on these!
DD (3.4) has now been referred to autism specialist team for assessment. Her identified difficulties so far are social communication and engagement etc, so I know that we are heading for an ASD dx. Paed has also referred her to educational psychologist, so I will definitely read the COP.
In terms of what information I'm seeking - anything! I think the main way I'm trying to keep calm and deal with this is by trying to read my way round it, if that makes sense. DH will not like his Amazon bill this month I think....

Well much as I dislike the guy S baron-Cohen wrote a simple book on 'The Facts' which is a good early read.

You coukd do with getting your hand on some assessments or checklists too that you can use to assess where your child's difficulties lie, thn you can see clearly where to get working yourself.

if your child has food issues, Can't Eat Won't Eat, and Autism, Play, Laughing and Learning by Julia Moor is also good. Oh and worth checking out Donna Williams' website (famous adult artist and author with autism)

Thanks again Star. I would be very keen to do some assessments myself - any idea where I could buy from? SALT has been keeping DD under review and has indicated that she will be formally assessed shortly.

Passenger, many thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated. Yes, DD's diet is becoming increasingly restrictive!

Star, thank you again - this is so helpful.
I just ordered The Facts. My head is so pickled at the minute that I searched amazon under his cousin's name - the wrong S. I don't think DD would get much out of watching Borat....

marking my place as so many of these are useful
But also to say that 'Talkability' is the next step on from 'More than words' for the older child with good language but poor social communication- I found it great.

Porridge, I have added Talkability to my list, it sounds great - thank you
