Is sds special needs? Do camhs assess?

We're becoming increasingly concerned for dsd (11). He's always been a nervy child. Has stolen from us, then lied. Very attention seeking.

Since starting secondary school things have got increasingly worse. He makes up stuff for attention at school, initially they believed him but are now wise to it. He's been seeing the school counsellor but if hasn't done any good, if anything its feeding the attention he wants.

If he doesn't get his way he goes into a rage that can last for hours, verbally and physically abusive towards anyone who gets in his way. Its got to the stage where i fear for his siblings and my ds - so much that i don't want to puf my ds in a potential volatile situation :(

He can flip in a second for no provocation, its like living with 2 different people.

He doesn't accept responsibility for his actions and always says it was someone elses fault as to why he hit someone.

We have a camhs meeting soon, will they assess him and whether he's special needs?

maybe? or maybe some anxiety over something? not an expert, just a Mum. you're doing the right thing getting it all checked out. maybe there is a special need that is the underlying cause of the anxiety. I wonder if he would talk to CAMHS like he wouldn't talk to parents/teachers etc. so a good thing you are going. maybe could you get him to write/draw what upsets him, what makes him happy. that's what i've been told to do with ds1. he's 6 with Aspergers and says "there's something wrong with me" because he's noticed the difference between him and peers now.

good luck. i feel for you

Thanks jerbil, my post doesn't really show how bad/tiring things can get.

Don't know if its linked but he had to have speech therapy as a toddler.

He doesn't seem to think things through or have consideration for others, ie was threatening to push his younger sibling dian the stairs. At bathtime thinks its funny to stick his bits in his siblings faces, considering he's nearly 12 I would have thought he'd know better.

He doesn't do anything we ask of him, its always 'no'.
