DS is in a unit attached to mainstream.

He is progressing well and meeting IEPs however it has become apparent that in integration because of more stimulating environment and all he is non attentive, non compliant..not making most out of it there.

Teacher is aware I have adopted some ABA/VB startegies at home and is aware he gets input at home daily and have adopted some strategies to some extent and success.

I have to submit parental feedback for his annual review so need some help on wording it right and politically correctly; I need to include something in lines of:

They should be including all my behaviour strategies as the teacher has done some and seen benefits and drop in the ABA/VB word since they don't have a clue most of the time how to motivate him on a non preferred tasks?

Considering most specialists involved are saying its language related and mostly that holds him back how do I politely suggest staff working with him need some input from SALT on how to break down language when giving instructions? I dont want to offend anyone really.

Please help. Thanks so much in advance, I know most here have gone through this but I need this on statement in some form in case current placement doesnt work out in future.

CT/TA should liaise weekly with parents in order to ensure positive behaviour strategies for integration into the mainstream classroom can be consistently used at school and reinforced at home. This should take the form of a daily homeschool book and a weekly 10 minute meeting.

Strategies should be documented and agreed in advance in a SMART format and data taken daily on their success.

For each target, the exact wording of the instruction should be agreed in advance to ensure that the complexity of the language is at a level DS can understand. Full support with complience and teaching of the target skill will be given by a TA.

Staff to be given bespoke training on ds by a qualified SALT to enable them to shape and break down their language for ds' individual difficulties.

Does any of that help?

thanks Starlight. You put it perfectly.

When I mention the strategies do I add I do VB at home and this has been very successful for DS?

It depends on what you are hoping to gain. Usually you'd only use the official terminology if you are wanting them to fund ab ABA Consultant or tutor. If you do, it has to be explicit. If you don't it is best to avoid the terminology and call it something like positive behaviour support as the usual strategy for getting LAs to fund ABA is to get it working and then use the success in a tribunal. Therefore if they get a whiff that you might be building evidence that ABA 'works' for your Ds they might become obstructive iyswim.

SALT just emailed me her recommendations for the annual review and blow me away, this woman deserves a medal!

She has spared me lots of hassle and written it all out nicely, positive behavior strategies, training staff and all. Social Communication group daily??? Fantastic!

Thanks Star for your input Thanks
