I took my dd last week for a 2 day assessment, the lady has phoned me today to say that it all went well and there will be a very long detailed report on its way in the post, after being on the phone for quite a while, while she was explaining things ( there was a lot to take in) the 1 thing she did say was there dx/ findings on how severe her auditory processing was and then started going on about APD, this is on top of her SLI and also multipul sensory issuse, but did say it will all be explained in the report. now im starting to think and wonder is this a lot more severe than we intially thought,...... has anyone else come across APD because untill today i'd never heard of it, and will this make a differance into the type/sort of secondary school we should be looking at.

Yes, my DD (8) has it too. It explained a huge amount about DD's behaviour! We thought she just had selective hearing Grin. There's a book by Teri James Bellis about it - you can get it on Amazon.

You're right, it's not very well known (a year ago I had not ever heard of it either!) but apparently it's quite common. I think I've probably had it all my life too, without ever realising :) ? so it's not a debilitating disability in the same way as, say, traditional hearing loss. There are a few simple steps & strategies you can do to help in school - just awareness goes a long way. A good senco/teacher will be able to help your DD work around the issue. Good luck!

Pretty sure my dd has this too-she has very severe processing issues anyway. There is a website about it and one poster here, dolfrog knows lots about it but like, SLI it doesn't seem to be officially diagnosed very often.

Does your DD have speech sound production issues too? I ask because my DD really has serious problems with this and cannot make herself understood very easily which is making me think about school placements, also she needs a quiet learning environment which is proving to be tricky in her mainstream school but they do take her out for small group work which works well.

Was the assessment at ICAN? We had one there and the report was brilliant, outlined exactly what she would benefit from school wise and her statement was written up using some direct quotes fron the report.

Thanks all. xxx

Yes it was done by ICAN, She does have some problems with that to go along with lots of other things, they said she has some quite complex but specific things, im a nervous wreak sat here waiting for the report cause im more intreged into what they have found, Im planning on taking on our LEA to get it so she can go to 1 ov the ICAN schools. Cause atm come sept she has no sutable school to go to.

Unfortunaly we dont have a good sence or even her teacher for that matter, but she has only 7 week left in that school anyway.

Also thinking about it would this explain her ASD type quirks or could they have actuallly dx on there report.........
