Now I'll openly admit that my ds ms school is in reality fairly good - they pushed very hard to have ds statemented and gave him 121 support until they got it. Ds got 19hrs support but the school provide the extra hrs ds needs. I haven't been through any of coff or claws issues - they are extremely keen for ds to take part in all trips including the residential trip in July. They have asked that I take ds to visit the place with his lsa (in school time) before he goes - which is reasonable. They also provide group speech therapy and the HT is very hot on not letting him being removed from class without good reason and not for entire sessions - ds gets upset if he's sent out and past teachers have attempted to send ds out with LSA even before there's a problem, and I'm lucky to have a strong opinionated LSA that will argue for ds and now a HT, that appears to be managing her staff. I will say reception was a nightmare the old HT did not support ds in any way when we applied for statement and blanket banned him from PE, music and assembly - ds kind of fell into a depression. The only run-in I had with the new HT was when she said that ds couldn't attend a drama club without me there ( long story and not relevant)
Anyhow I mentioned to the senco I was looking at ABA - she called me today to book a meeting about the jnr transition and then proceeded to tell me that she spoken to the EP about my research and low and behold the EP was an ABA therapist and would I like to come in and have a chat to get a better understanding - I nearly fell over! I'm still in shock .... Whilst the school aren't bad I'm usually the driving force ..... Totally thrown me off guard - the bastards! Grin

I was actually in two minds about posting this as I was devastated for coff and mini-coff and they're shit nasty horrible HT. In the end I thought credit where credit is due - and also by joining this board I realised I'd been but bitching (need good karma) about the school when they'd been quite good and especially since they are a ms - now I know the ms schools shouldn't be an excuse to not provide an SN child with quality care and education but in reality ms HT use this excuse constantly by way of an excuse of their inadequacy.
Also just want to say not having a gloat - I'm actually in shock I thought I'd have to battle them into letting me do ABA

That is so good to hear.

coff33pot · 24/05/2012 19:10

Dont be devastated this is definately worth posting! Grin

I was beginning to feel that there wasnt one school on this earth that was supportive and all the government changes made me shudder that SN is going to hit a no go dead end with no way to battle it.

It is soooo good to hear and read that there is a school out there that can do it! I am glad your ds is in there as I bet you are too Grin

Coff- I think the reason that I was so devastated for you, was because when I was 7/8yrs I was on the receiving end of a teacher taking a dislike to me - she would spray perfume in my direction as if I smelled, I was the only one not to take part in sports day, she put me in a lower reading group for no reason (seriously I was fantastic at reading, maths was appalling) - I never had any part in the Christmas play. One day she took one of her turns and for no reason in front of the class called me a fat lazy lump - I cracked and while she wasnt looking I scored into her desk with my sewing needle "fuck by miss xxxxxxx". I got caught and my dm was ready for murdering me with merry abandon - my df (who could normally be relied upon to do the murdering) twigged that something was up - unfortunately it was at the end of the year and so nothing was really done about it.
Don't let that excuse for a human being grind you down - and I'm so proud of your ds for holding it together - very special little man

What an appalling horrible teacher you had! nothing but a pure bully.

You are of an age then that you will never forget that is the problem and trusting other teachers not to do the same must have been hard for you.

Hopefully with this EP of yours being an ABA therapist she should be able to do an amazingly helpful report with some good suggestions in :)
