CAN I FIRST STATE THAT I HAVE NO CONNECTION WITH THIS OTHER THAN WANTING TO SHARE INFO WITH OTHER PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SN/ASD. If that is not good enough to allow the thread to stand then so be it!
The Challenging Behaviour Foundation are speaking at a conference, ?Understanding and Managing Challenging Behaviour? on 11th July 2012 in Liverpool.
This conference, organised by The National Autistic Society, will present the latest research and best practice in understanding and responding to challenging behaviour in children and adults with autism.
Every day, people with autism are expected to cope with the challenges of a world which can often seem bewildering and irrational. This can cause high levels of anxiety and stress, resulting in behaviours that can be difficult for other people to deal with and offer significant challenges to professionals involved in the provision of educational, health and welfare services. This conference will discuss the causes of anxiety for people with autism and the types of behaviour which can be used to express this anxiety. Key speakers will discuss the latest research and give case studies illustrating best practice.
The event features two different streams, one targeted at a clinical audience featuring expert clinical psychologists and psychiatrists. They will discuss the latest thinking around challenging behaviour. Prof Chris Oliver will talk about self-injurious behaviour and Dr Nikola Kem will discuss eating disorders in young people with autism. The other stream is aimed at professionals working in care or education and will discuss proactive and practical strategies to help prevent or minimise stress and anxiety in people with autism and lead to a decrease in challenging behaviour.
