Been told to send all my reports to LEA - Help

The psychiatrist diagnosed DS1 last week with ASD. He is behind at School, only just progressed to the second stage of reading books and we're nearing end of yr1. He has IEP for literacy; been on same one since January. Just been told he can progress to the next one. roughly, the last one was for blending 4 letter words. he has 2 x half hr sessions per week & jumpstart reading programme x 1 per week. He has excellent handwriting for his age (he's artistic too).

He really struggles with playtimes and dreads them. He doesn't like school at all. he has to follow rules there and he does it perfectly because he follows rules very very well at school.

He has visual stress and sensory processing difficulties too.

I'm aware of the struggles people have with getting extra support and wonder if we have a cat in hells chance of getting any help at all?

The psychiatrists words were to get every report we have (lots!) and send them to the LEA. does she mean get a statutory assessment? does this involve assessment by an EP as he's never had one.

I would write to the LA requesting SA, and enclosing copies of the reports as evidence of need.

No chance of statement if you don't ask for one?

They will probably get EP to observe at some point as part of the process. If you have school support it is far more likely to succeed.

School have always refused me an EP, will he not get one purely as the dx compounds things now and actually tells them he's not just a lazy little boy with sh!t parents? Sorry can't help the bitterness sometimes :-)

If the LA decide that SA is warranted, it's absolutely normal for the EP to come and do an observation. It won't be anywhere near as detailed as a private psych, but will just be box ticking for the SA.

That said, if school are being pants, then you need to apply yourself for SA. Templates on ipsea website, I think? Make sure you include as much evidence as poss so they can't say no...
