Does your child with ASD talk to themself in the mirror?

My ds has always had a thing about the mirror - or any reflective service! If I give him the phone he has to watch himself holading it in the mirror (my stainless steel oven door). More and more he is looking at himself in the mirror and talking to it - as he is becoming more verbal he will stand looking at the mirror and name eyes / nose / mouth etc

Is this common or just ds?

My DS with ASD doesn't talk and never looks at himself in the mirror, so you are well ahead of me!!
I suppose it's all about coping with recognition and trying to understand why his face is moving when he speaks. Very cute though! Smile

No, but then we don't have any mirrors that he has easy access to tbh. He does, however, talk to himself endlessly - or to Mickey, Donald, Daisy, or other Disney characters. Hmm We've asked him if they are "real" and he says "only when they're talking, when they're not talking they're not real." um... ok.... Confused

My DS has only just (nearly three) become aware of the mirror and he does a lot of things in front of it now while watching himself. We put a mirror (the plastic non-break type) in his room at his level some time ago (on the advice of the speech therapist), but until about two weeks ago he totally ignored it. Now he seems very interested in it. I take this as a good sign!

Thanks for your comments, I'm also taking it as a good sign. Just about to put a mirror in his bedroom for him - his sister has a mirror door on her wardrobe and he loves going in there. It's alsmost as though he needs to see himself doing / saying things.
