I was in local YMCA charity shop buying book for dd. while waiting I was listening to a young lad about 18 years old, who had autism or learning difficulties chatting with staff member, another young man of about 20 yrs. The staff member was telling him how they sort the clothes, deal with hangers, sizing cubes ect. The staff member was amazing, calm kind without treating young lad like a child. At one point he told he liked coming to work because it meant he got to work with him. I couldn't help smiling and it brightened my day a little. I didnt say anything at first but then had to go back in to tell the staff member how wonderful he was Blush.

Oh, how lovely that you said something. People are always so quick to complain but rarely bother to say nice things. Sounds like a wonderful place.

It's a bit sad that you noticed this though - it should be a given that everybody treats each other like that, regardless of special needs. Not sad that YOU noticed, but sad that society makes it that you DO notice. It should just be the way things are, not something out of the ordinary.

My youth work night is Thursday, which is the same night as the SN night at one of the other clubs in the area. Last week they were short staffed (have to have two paid workers in order to open, that's any club not just sn night btw) so I was asked to go over.

I was the second oldest person there. The staff/volunteer team - about 10 people but apparently there's usually more - are all younger than me (30).

There are some fab people around, and they're not all physically mature :)
