Always someone here. Smile Try to think positively, any help or support your DS needs will be all the better for knowing where and what he needs. (((hugs)))

How old is he? I feel for you, I really do. It's nerve wracking and scary. Hugs from me too.

Thanks Ellen, I thought today was just an initial meeting to tell me what would happen but then they said they were going to just start the assessment there, DS wouldn't even look at them when he first came into the room and when I left to go sit in the waiting room he was refusing to leave the toys there so I'm worried that he will be very defiant and not cooperate.

Did they explain the name of the assessment, who is doing it and next steps?

Ben10NeverAgain · 16/05/2012 14:51

I'm here! How long is the assessment?

ImBetterThanYou · 16/05/2012 14:55

He's 5, :)

Imbetter

If he is displaying his "normal" behaviours then hopefully it will help them be able to assess his cognitive ability. If he has got a LD, then they are picking it up nice and early so that you and school can look at next steps :)

Here have a Brew

THey are only doing a little 15 minute assessment with him because he's got quite a short attention span, that's us out now, he answered all of his questions really well so I'm really relieved!

They didn't say what it was called, just that it would take about 2 hours but they'll spread it over 2 more appointments, and it involves doing jigsaws, building blocks, asking simple questions and stuff, it's the test for boys and girls aged up until 7yrs old. I wish I had asked the name of it now.

Oh really hope it goes ok for you and your DS, very nerve wrecking I know.

ImBetterThanYou · 16/05/2012 15:09

Thanks so much everyone!

I hadn't really realised that having special needs and having learning difficulties were different, what are learning difficulties and how would they affect DS if he had any? I assumed that having asd just meant that he'd automatically have learning difficulties Blush, I should have just asked while I was talking to the psychologist at camhs but my mind had just went blank because I was worried about DS.
