Hi all

My DS recently saw an Ed Psych who found that he has sensory issues, receptive language impairment and attention issues.

Just wondered if anyone has had any luck with persuading insurance companies to pay up in these sorts of circumstances (and if so - how!) They are saying that they will not pay for anything related to development...

Many thanks!

why do you need insurance to pay up?

I presume she means pay for treatment. Ferdie are you in the UK? If so, the NHS covers treatment.

Not in the UK. The states do though, but I understand you still need to fight.

If you are with a company that operates in the states and they have funded there you can perhaps argue that.

YOu can also try and persuade them that your ds needs 'medical intervention' rather than 'educational/development' but I think it is rare as our model of intervention in the UK is very different to many other places in the world.

Sorry for confusion - we saw an Educational Psychologist privately for an assessment with a view to obtaining a Statement at considerable cost, rather than wait 4 or 5 months to be seen by the Ed Pych attached to DS's school.

StarshitTerrorise - that's where I am running into diffculty - how to persuade them that it is medical rather than developmental?

Ed Pych told me that some clients had managed to get insurance companies to pay so just wondering if any mumsnetters have managed this in similar circumstances...
