I dont realy know how to feel about it. Im glad we have it because it means DS1 (10) will get the help he needs. But Im sad as well.

I feel like a bit of a shit mum tbh as DS2 is starting on the same route atm with investigations. Feel like a bit of a failure.

Welcome to the SN board.
Sorry you have been going through this.

6 years is a really long time. I hope your ds starts to get some support and that your younger ds doesnt have to wait so long.

It took 3.5 yrs for Dd3 to be dxed with ASD.

Good luckSmile

Meant to say, be kind to yourself and dont beat yourself up.

coff33pot · 15/05/2012 16:59

You are not a failure. None of this is your fault xx

You have just battled and proved that there was a valid reason behind your sons issues and you should be proud of yourself.

Onward and upward now you can start demanding the help and support he needs.

I hope your DS2 gets a quicker dx 6 yrs is a long time.

Take it easy for a few days and be kind to yourself :)

Hi Julez

Don't blame yourself at all. Thanks to you your son has got the dx he needs so that he can get the support he needs.

We're all here for you for any questions, support or just Brew.

You've stuck with the battle through 6 and a half years, you've done really well to persevere and although you are bound to have mixed feelings about finally having a diagnosis, guilt doesn't need to figure there at all.

Triggles · 15/05/2012 18:13

Welcome. Getting a dx is always a mixed bag. On one hand, you get that confirmation that you're not going crazy. On the other hand, you have to give up the idea that maybe they're just an eccentric child and you're wrong and they don't have SNs after all. I know it was like this for us anyway.

Take time to get your head around it.

HolyCalamityJane · 15/05/2012 18:17

Welcome. My DD is 5 and has ADHD and DCD so if you need to offload or have a whinge or compare tactics you can always PM me.

Good for you for sticking with the dx process. Ask what your OT can do to help with the DCD.

It's not so bad now you know what you are dealing with you can tackle it with a bit more understanding!!

Julezboo · 15/05/2012 18:49

Thank you so much. We see OT regularly. He has come on massively since we started going, he can tie laces and ride his bike now.

I just dont know what to do for the best tbh. I am losing sleep about him starting secondary school I am so worried about how hes going to cope, bullying etc...

Then DS2, they are failry certain he is ADHD.

Also have major issues with my 16 month old, lots of allergies, poor immune system and he hasnt said a single word yet so is already being referred for speech therapy.

All seems a little over whelming at the moment and I know DH is feeling the same though he hasnt admitted it.

Doesnt help we are all so tired due to DS3 not being a great sleeper, Bedtime with DS2 is always hell. :(

Julezboo · 15/05/2012 19:23

Thank you Alison. Long standing MNetter been arround since 2004 (makes me feel bloody old!) Just new to SN boards. Effectively, I did post briefly a while back but its all new to me over here :)

Have a feeling I will be spending a lot of time over in this section. I need to ask a few questions about ADHD and Aspergers re: DS2 but will save that for tomorrow cos I am exhausted so best go make lunches etc... n get myself off to bed. DS3 is poorly again :(

Welcome to the board, it is a great support for me and am sure you will find the same. :)
Have DS1 13 Dyspraxia, ASD and DS2 8 with autism.

Take it easy and look after yourself, you have a lot going on right now and it is a mixed emotions time getting a dx.

Great that DS had come on well since having OT!
