her latest 'card' home from school is a picture made into a 'greetings' card, with the greeting written in perfectly formed letters but in a right-left formation instead of left-right...

she's 4.11yrs and her handwriting is very good by most accounts

anything to worry about/ask her CT or is this just another day in the life of autism?

hi unchartered Is your Dd left handed?

Writing backwards is quite common in lefties.

If not could it just be that she started writing on the right hand side of the page and just continued to write across as she knew she should?

I don't think it is necessarily related to her ASD, she is still little and they do get confused sometimes if they start on the wrong side of the page.

I wouldn't worry too much if it just happens occasionally.

If it starts to happen frequently though I would mention it to the teacher and she could put a mark or coloured line on the left side of the page so that your Dd knows she should start there

Good luckSmile

Hi uncharted

I'm a leftie and my mum always tells stories of how i used to write backwards in perfectly neat writing, so if she does happen to be left handed it's quite common.

as Ineedalife said, she's still quite young so it could just be a confusing stage for her.

If you notice it happening more often i'd definitely mention something to the teacher :)

I'm a righty and my party trick is perfect backwards writing. Like in a mirror backwards.

she's a confirmed right-hander and just been asking her how she came to write it, she said the other way was boring Confused

i'll keep an eye out and will maybe mention it to her teacher next time he doesn't manage to run away from me i catch him
