Just noticed this DLA

As I've just started renewing DS's claim I'm wondering why I am bothering Sad

It does say the changes only affect people of working age, not children or pensioners.

Working age or not though it makes depressing reading......:(

I'm scared this is gonna screw my sister over totally. She works but can only manage part time & lives independently.

With all the cuts I see her being forced to move in with me in April 2013 or shortly after. Working may no longer be possible.

It's not that I don't care about her it's that my sis, my son & I in a one bed flat is a total recipe for disaster, and that's before we get to the damage to her self-esteem losing her hard won independence will cause. Anti-depression pills and a huge bill for the NHS all round = well done IDS.

This quote turned my stomach - the man is dangerous:-
" Losing a limb should not automatically entitle people to a pay-out, he suggests"

(I'd like to suggest he's sent to a ward full of miltary veterans from Afhganisatan, their weapons at the ready)

I really fail to see how losing a limb can not mean that you have additional living expenses associated with your disability.

The Govt really is focusing very unfairly on those who claim disability benefits.

But I suppose the disabled are soft targets Angry

My friend is facing losing her car and therefore her mobility.

My dad luckily is financially able to absorb the loss but will probably lose his lifelong entitlement :(

Ben10NeverAgain · 14/05/2012 07:18

Saying that I am going to call up for a form for myself today. I probably won't qualify under PIP. I do qualify under DLA but I know that they'll turn me down.

Ben10NeverAgain · 14/05/2012 07:22

Just read that.

This bit has made me mad "?Third problem was lifetime awards. Something like 70 per cent had lifetime awards, (which) meant that once they got it you never looked at them again. They were just allowed to fester.?

Allowed to fester. WTF. People were using the DLA to live as independently as possible. That was the whole point.

I have to say that some of the comments back to the disabilist posters are quite fanatastic:

"I have a close relative on this benefit, she is mute"

Copy her.

IDS totally missing the point that people have things that cannot be cured - maybe that's why they get lifetime awards Hmm The language used by him is very divisive. When's the next election?

siblingrivalry · 14/05/2012 08:04

I read this earlier and felt a mixture of rage and sadness.
I am so fearful for the future with this bloody government and am worried about all the people whose lives will be utterly wrecked by losing their DLA.
Sorry for swearing, but bastards Angry

Ben10NeverAgain · 14/05/2012 08:35

swear away. it's necessary

bochead · 14/05/2012 08:38

Ninja - exactly! If only we had magic wands.Confused

I'm furious that someone with such a degree of studity has been allowed anywhere near the corridors of power.

So on top of our current burdens it looks as if we should also be fighting to retain adult services before it's too late.
