Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

I know I can be a bit difficult but I challenge ANY of you to see the sense in this...

I'm 36 week pg and have STILL not been referred to local maternity services despite handing in forms to GP some time ago.

When I chased the reason given was that although I had put my height on the form, I had not put my weight and waist measurement.

I explained I was heavily pregnant but they insisted I come in regardless to have weight and waist measured, - which I did yesterday, so now I have to wait 48 hours for processing.

Confused

I don't think I even had a waist at 36wks. Blush

They sound completely crap hopeless.

StarshitTerrorise · 11/05/2012 10:00

Exactly. Their computer no doubt will flag me up for an urgent obesity programme. The BMI and cardiac risk must look sky high!

And I'm not particularly slim when I'm NOT about to give birth.

You'll come up as super-morbidity obese - just round the middle you understand ;) They'll probably book you in for urgent gastric bypass surgery before they book you in for birth. Or maybe alcohol counselling as you just have a bit of beer gut

StarshitTerrorise · 11/05/2012 10:22

It's probably got something to do with their computer system. Perhaps if they don't have a Number to put in those boxes it won't let a registration complete!

Who knows? Hmm

Mmm, I've got one of those gym membership cards as I'm on ESA. Everytime I've tried to use the pool during the highly restrictive times that us scummers are allowed I've been attacked by OAPs swimming widthways across the pool glaring at any "young people" who dare to come during the OAP time. I hate to think what it's like in the actual gym. They'd probably throw a barbell at me for daring to come in.

I am just heading into the GTT territory, because I have hit the magic age when this becomes automatic (the care team have no other concerns at all, it's just I am 35...)

I tried ot talk to them yesterday (when I had a consultant's appt - ran an hour late. good thing I picked dd1 up to go with me, rather than assuming my appt would be on time and I would be able to collect her after - I had specifically booked the first appt of the clinic so I could get back across county for her...) and explain that the timings of a GTT don't really work for me, wht with having to go across parts of 3 counties each morning on my school run.

they smiled sweetly, and said, yes, they know it can be difficult sometimes, but no one offered any solutions at all...

when did everything get so bureaucratic? I am sure it wasn't like this when I had dd2...

coff33pot · 11/05/2012 11:05

I had DS two months short of my 41st birthday and by the time I had him I had been reminded to take it easy due to my age a zillion times. It drove me potty.

Along with dont eat this and dont eat that, tests for this and that. More blood pressure tests than I can count on my hands. Compared to when I had DD 22 years ago they seem to put more needless worry on mothers now.

Blood pressure never moved all through and the only time I was anaemic was when I was in hospital due to the crap food I couldnt eat! They wanted to keep me in so I told them I would seriously starve to death if I stayed lol

Mind you I do not make a good patient Grin

bochead · 11/05/2012 11:55

If you have any genuine health concerns re the pregnancy just go to an A&E where there is also a maternity unit and get logged into the system that way. If you go into labour in the immediate future then that'll be the approach you HAVE to take anyway.

I simply lied about my address to give birth to DS, in order to gain admittance to a semi-decent hospital, but can't pull the same stunt twice lol! Next time I'll go the A&E route across town, on the grounds that if I'm aready in labour it's too late to transfer me to the hell-hole that is my local PCT maternity unit.

Is the shitty receptionist jobsworth AWARE that there's a time limit for pregnancy? You'll probably get your appointment card when mini-star is 3 years old at this rate.

StarshitTerrorise · 11/05/2012 20:30

Thanks Boch, I STILL can't be referred apparently as it is standard practice in the GP surgery I happened to have registered with to insist on a pg test before referral.

So, I'm booked for an appointment on Tue to have a pg test and 'work out my due date'.

I'm sorry but, do I live in a parallel universe to everyone else where things appear normal but are really very very twisted indeed?

OP posts:
ABatInBunkFive · 11/05/2012 20:34

They are very very special, i'm not sure sure POAS is the best way to provide proof of pregnancy at 36 weeks! Grin

StarshitTerrorise · 11/05/2012 20:35

At this rate there is an increased chance the baby himself will just pop out and say hello!

OP posts:
ABatInBunkFive · 11/05/2012 20:38

I imagine they'd want proof that it is indeed a baby. Wink

Lougle · 11/05/2012 20:39

And then they'd say, 'but ST, you aren't pregnant, are you? You can't possibly be because you have a newborn, and there wouldn't be sufficient time yet for you to get pregnant again' Grin

StarshitTerrorise · 11/05/2012 20:57

Probably Lougle

I suspect, and hope, that it all got lost in translation and the GP just wants to meet me before referral to cover herself, but then the receptionist over-explained without thinking.

Please let that be it!

Silver, sorry you're getting the GTT hassle too.

It really DOESN'T work does it? The timings are practically impossible.

Hope it gets sorted for you.

My 2 red flags are 1)BMI threshold having been dropped since last pg and 2)being 36.

coff33pot · 11/05/2012 23:10

Star you are fine in your universe its the rest of the world that is on planet Zog.

Triggles · 11/05/2012 23:32

Oddly enough, I had DS2 when I was 40 and DS3 when I was 43. Never told I was an "older mum" or had anything simply due to age (at least not that was told to me!). I had the GTT, but then I have had that with EVERY pregnancy as there is a hugely high incidence of diabetes in my family, including GD with my sisters.

All depends on who you talk to, I suppose.
