AS Team referral form

one side lists cognition & learning ie SLD, MLD,SLD, PLD, BESD, ESB

other side lists Sensory and/or Plysical Needs
ie
Hearing impairment
Visual Impairment
Multi Sensory Impairment
Physical Disability
Communication & Interaction
Speaeech and Language needs
Social Communication Needs

School have entered his dxs on form however omitted Sensory Processing Disorder (this is deliberate due to refusing training)

The form is supposed to be discussed with parent but not

I have asked them to put this dx down and tick multi sensory impairment.

School have said that is for children that have both sight and hearing impairment?

Am I looking at this form wrong? I assumed that the top two would be ticked for hearing and sight. DS SPD covers auditory visual, auditory filtering, tactile, sensory seeking and I have assumed as the Team advised on sensory integration that multi sensory impairment means sensory needs?

Please advise if you are able :)

I was going to point out that you might be wrong as Multi-sensory impairment is for VI/HI children. :) However where should SPD be on that form>

the deafblind dx has now changed to MSI, the thinking being that if you are deaf and blind that your issues are multiplied rather than just added together, and most people aren't totally deaf and blind, it's more of a spectrum thing, it's also highly likely that you have additional sensory processing needs, particularly as a child. It does look like they need to add another category to cover SPD.

Thanks guys :)

Yes did an internet search and found out it is multi hearing/visual.

The school is ignoring his SPD which is major factor as they are refusing to go on sensory course and refusing to listen to OT and are still refusing to provide quiet room/area for him, refusing to allow him breaks every 10 mins and infact stopping him going out to play. His behaviour is getting intolerable in school because they expect him to cope with sats tests on top of not meeting needs.

And so it didnt come to any surprise that they fill in this form which is supposed to be in consultation with the parents and omit this dx.

Been up and penned it in and drew an extra box in their list lol and put in mutli sensory processing needs :)

I'd be incline to put it in the multi-sensory needs box UNTIL THEY come up with a better place for it tbh.

Well its a bit late now Star as its posted (postie arrived as I was doing it)

I think they come and visit you too by the look of it so I will have to speak to them then. I am going to give it two days to get there and ring the number on the leaflet I think to explain things.
