Social stories

Could anyone give me a good link to where I could find a few good ones? Relating to answering back, cheekiness, hitting, shouting etc.

I know there is a certain formula for social stories, would it be possible to tell me if I'm getting it right;

X does action
Action makes people feel emotion
it's not nice to make people feel emotion
X does not do action again.

Am I on the right lines?

Thanks!

Have you tried doing positive social stories first? 50% of your stories should be praising achievement - it might help if you get used to doing those ones first before trying to tackle any unwanted behaviours.

They need to be VERY personal so that your child will respond to them. Off the shelf stories aren't as effective as those that are individually targeted. They'll work better if you use personal photos too.

I have the NAS notes on writing social stories, which I found far more useful than Carol Gray's method. PM me with an email address if you want me to send it to you.

I would go more along the lines of

X hits
its ok to be angry
but when angry x does (insert what you want him to do instead of hitting)

I fully support the introduction of positive stories first and can be used (well has been for us) as a way of getting back on track. One that we wrote ages ago about ds using gentle hands on animals and how much the animals loved it etc etc has been used many, many times to introduce and reintroduce the gentle hands message when needed. In his very early years the story needed to be very specific so was photos of him holding a particular animal very gently, stroking it with feather touches (light touches etc) but now at 7 we can get it out and say "Maggie dog likes gentle touch...so does dd or mum or the friend at school" "DS is so good at using gentle touch on Maggie dogs back....dd likes gentle touch too" etc, etc. Not everything is able to be transferred for him like this but he definately relates much better to stories showing him times he is getting the interaction right if that makes sense.
