the website is virtually incomprehensible, but just seems to say 'empathy and problem solve' rather than punish or reward? is that it?

(website driving me to distraction. just seems to be endless vids and downloads of a fairly uncharismatic bloke in shirtsleeves waving a remote control to emphasis the same point over and over again. and his voice makes me want to go to sleep.)

has anyone used this collaborative problem solving malarkey, and are there any actual helpful resources for parents? is the book any good, or is it just more of the same? i don't think i can bear to order it if it is.

I have it to be fair I haven't finished it all but I found it a bit basic. The main principles being if your child has an explosive tantrum you have 3 choices

  1. Ignore
2.look at triggers that can cause an explosion and avoid them
  1. Discuss with child "I see that you got a little angry about that let's see what we can do to change that" etc etc (problem solving

That is the book in a nutshell. I don't know what I was expecting some miracle cure to stop the tantrums ????

I also have 10 days to a less defiant child aam working my way through that one. I have so many of these bloody books!!!

I also didn't finish it but liked the overall message - you want a child who follows requests without any fuss? Tough - you haven't got one. You will have to teach your child how to be flexible through your parenting because it's not innate.
