DS currently has 15 hrs funded support a week. His new statement has come through and he has been allocated 27.5 hours. He has one TA for 12.5 hrs currently and one for the 2.5 hrs. The 27.5 hrs is an April start. One of the TA's in school could possibly move into this slot, only DS and I both really dont like her Sad can i request we dont get her ? I'm not precious or fussy but can envisage so many problems.

Firstly, that's brilliant that you've got so many hours! Smile

I'm not sure how you'd get on requesting not to have a particular TA. It's usually up to the school to employ someone that they think will work well with their staff and with your DS. Most don't seem to involve the parents at all unless you have that sort of relationship with them. It wouldn't hurt to ask for a meeting with the head and SENCo, to 'work with them' to find the most appropriate TA to suit your DS's needs. It would be in everyone's interest to find someone who would work successfully with your DS.

Why do you think they'll use this particular TA? Has someone she's been supporting left, or does she just do mornings/afternoons ATM?

what i tried at DS first secondary school he went to was frequently e-mail and 'over praise' the TA's that worked well with him. If the TA did something particularly well, off an e-mail would fly.

understood him.....
worked well together....
on same wavelength......

This was all in the hope the useless more inexperienced one didn't get too much time with him. Worked up to a point. You could try it??

Why doesnt your ds like her? Have they clashed before? Has there been issues with yourself and this TA.

If so then there is a good chance the TA may not want to work with ds? :)

I had a TA whom we had issues with. I was honest and just said that the TA/Teachers will be advising you on how days went etc and due to the difficult relationship with the TA and even if she is good at her job. I am liable to be biased when she mentions something DS has done so it wont be fair on that TA if you employ her to work with him :)
