I need help with protein please.

So I have started DS on Zinc + Magnesium, Vegepa and a multi-vitamin.

I know that I am supposed to be giving DS lots of protein but his diet is so limited. I would never get a cooked breakfast down him!

He does like cheese, and he eats ham and bolognese most nights.

What other things can I try? He wont eat hot food (except the bolognese bizarrely) and he eats with his fingers

Hi Void some breakfast things we do for DD are croque Monsieur, French toast, bacon, sausages, beans with whole meal toast, omelette, scrambled egg, boiled egg with ham. For lunch always a whole meal roll with either turkey, ham, cheese or tuna and some fruit. Have loads and loads of recipes for evening meal will your DD eat casserole type dishes do you think or homemade chicken fingers/ fish fingers? If you let me know what you think he might try I will send you some recipes on FB.

He could have cheese and ham for breakfast. That's what they do in Germany :)

I think a boiled egg is a good idea.

Breakfast doesn't have to be only protein. Giving him his normal breakfast with cheese and ham as well should be fine.

We give DD her ham and baked beans first before she's allowed her oatabix, and so of course she eats less oatabix then she did. We found only a small amount of baked beans made a big difference.

How about sneaking some chia seeds into foods he DOES like?

I sneak a tablespoon of chia into various recipes - usually when I think DS looks a bit peaky or overtired or on the rare occasions he is off his grub. I do it mostly for the added iron & calcium (DS is dairy free) but chia contains lots of omega's, and protein too.

My friends has just started using the sneak a tablespoon of chia trick into her v. underweight, v. picky eater and those dark shadows under his eyes have faded & he's noticeably less irritable. Her wee boy is NT (though as he bossom buddies with my son I wonder sometimes) but he has the appetite of a ghat.

Chia can be hidden in anything from bolegnese to a mikshake. Athletes put it in their water bottles. It's very strange tasteless stuff but it might help a bit www.naturalnews.com/022468.html is a link. I buy mine off amazon & it's fine for coeliacs - bit of a "superfood" really methinks.

I got into it as I get hypoglycemic when stressed & need to watch my GI at times. Keeping blood sugar levels nice and constant can help lots of kids concentrate and reduce anxiety - not just those with asd/adhd.

If he eats dairy you can add (hide) skimmed milk powder to all sorts of foods, it's a good protein source.

Not sure if your DS would go for it but cooked up ham and cheese Quesidillas this morning they went down a storm Grin
