Hi all, time to renew dla!!! Last time (first time) we claimed for dd someone from cdc wrote this statement however we only see a paed now and have now contact with HV and she's not at nursery. I know for my dla I just get hubby to do it but I'm thinking this prob is not good enough for a child's dla. What do you guys all do? Is a friend that sees us regularly good enough? Thanks

i didn't complete that bit; i feel really uncomfortable asking the same people who helped us to assess him to then help us to access money - dh and i both felt we didn't want to look like we were just after cash! having read up more, i think we will be refused dla - we tried to be scrupulously honest, underplayed or missed out stuff, and I am thinking i have got it wrong really.

Basically, don't do what i did!

I have filled it in for my friend's DS and for the child I support as a TA. Anyone will do, but maybe best if someone you'd use as a personal reference, perhaps, a teacher friend or nurse friend or someone like that.

Great thanks guys. My mum always did mine when I was a kid but I know things are changing nowadays. I have an accountant friend she will do :)

I use this to give the boys' TAs a chance to comment - they tend to know the boys pretty well in a day to day and professional capacity, after all.

She's not at nursery yet otherwise I would've tried a teacher/TA thanks anyway ouryve

I usually get a relative to do it - I give them some pointers about what sort of things to say first though!

Chundle · 25/04/2012 17:44

That's what I do with my dla form star - in fact I usually write DHS statement for him! He's rubbish. I've asked a couple of close friends they've both said yes so ill just pick one

I don't bother with that page (it says its not compulsory) - if they need more info they have the dr's name and address on the form and the consultant and the school's details, they can contact them. Never been an issue

I've just got dla for my dd2 (this month) and I had a friend who we see a couple of times a week fill that part in. We had no problems and got awarded hrc within a couple of weeks. Good luck, I found this form quite emotional, putting down every detail of your dc condition is so hard.

My mum did DS's

Chundle · 25/04/2012 21:21

Thanks guys. All my family live 4 hrs away so can't ask them as don't see them regularly. Will get friend to do it. I photocopied forms last time and its interesting to see how some things have got better , other things much worse, and new odd things have developed.

DS's teacher filled it in for us - luckily she's on side and can see for herself the difficulties he faces. Although I was really paranoid she'd think we were money grabbers, which I know is silly but it took me ages to come to terms with the fact that DS was entitled to DLA Blush

FlyingFig · 25/04/2012 21:46

Just seen your DD isn't at nursery yet, sorry!

Ben10NeverAgain · 25/04/2012 21:47

My mum typed it and signed it. I then added it as an appendix to the form

TheTimeTravellersWife · 25/04/2012 21:49

I need to renew DD's DLA soon. I was thinking about asking her TA or the school's SENCO to complete the statement. I'm not sure who to ask, TBH, maybe her OT or her SALT, or Paed; she has complex needs, which all impact on her daily life. I was thinking that maybe the DWP would take more note of a "professional's" view.

starfishmummy · 25/04/2012 23:54

DS's community nurse told me that if I had asked her to fill it in, then she wouldn't have had to be contacted again (I'd put her as the someone to tell us about ds bit). I've never asked at the school as somewhere on the form you have to give details of a contact there, and they usually get something sent to them to complete. If you are lucky, they will even discuss with you what they are saying!
