2old2beamum · 18/04/2012 19:05

devientenigma yes East Anglia

SallyBear · 18/04/2012 19:09

I haven't given any thought to how it's funded or how much DS4's SS place costs. All I know is that his school has children with profoundly complex needs, physical and mental. DS4 has ASD and doesn't speak. Not helped by being deaf.

He was at MS with 30hours funded support, when the SLT came to see him and reported back to me how far behind he was/is. I then asked the question, was he in the right setting and without saying no, she told me about the SS which would be good to look at, specifically naming the one he is at now at least three times.

DS4 loved it when we went to look round, so decision made we applied. It went to Panel with the HT of his SS being on the panel, plus I had a lot of LA people in support of him going to SS, so the panel was a no brainer. Best decision we have made for him. Grin

My DS's new school. here

devientenigma · 18/04/2012 19:24

Just I have asked to pull DS's funds from his SS and was told it doesn't work like that. Really just wanted to know if it was something I could use in our defence, such as the wrong information given.

devient, your ds has a statement. he therefore needs to be provided with what is on that statement.

it is not your problem if the SS is still getting the funding for your ds' place. he is entitled to a suitable educatin, whic right now is not happening.

have you tried calling education law solicitors for their half hour free advice? many will provide this, and it might help you get some perspective on the situation.

devientenigma · 18/04/2012 19:34

silver the statement has been put on hold due to me having DS full time and having no time to nit pick the faults lol, however he has been a statemented child since 2 yo, 9 year ago. Not that he got anything provided that was in his statement anyway!

He is however having home tuition provided by the LA, 1 hour per day, 4 days per week. Even this isn't working as it should.

I think I did have a discussion around his statement with a solicitor from IPSEA about a year ago, who did want to take on the LA, only I got scared !

OP posts:
TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 18/04/2012 19:39

dev, could you try ipsea again? I think the funding of the ss should be irrelevant, a good ss would fill your ds' space in no time. The school needs to meet his needs, he's not getting to school so they are not doing that, that should be the focus and then on to where can.

devientenigma · 18/04/2012 19:44

thanks sally, it's a bit like the special school DS refuses to go to. He needs something more individual.

Yeah ninja, thats what we are saying, if the school met his needs, he would be there.

However after 2 year out of school a lot of us feel he's not gonna go back to any school. We have seen 2 independant schools more suitable but still unsure.

I think we feel if someone could tell us more about DS and how he ticks we may know better what to do, educationally.

Iv found this quite an intresting read due to being in the process of fighting out LEA to see if they will fund for my daughter to go to an independant SN school but due to the distance from our house she will have to board, my daughter is allready statemented with 20hrs 1-1 and in banding 2a for funding, im just hoping that i have enough proof and with the other schools turning her down that i have a good enough case.

devientenigma · 18/04/2012 19:55

yeah Alison, our statement went to 5 neighborouing authorities and after seeing DS from the car, have said they can't have him, which leaves us in a good position also. I don't know what band my son is!!

OP posts:
cansu · 18/04/2012 20:20

When I was fighting for independent out of county place LEA said ds place at local ss was worth 22,000.

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 18/04/2012 20:45

if you can find your school here it'll tell you the average spend per pupil at the school, it may give you a rough idea.

I don't think my area bands, at least not so parents can see!

devientenigma · 18/04/2012 20:52

whoo hoo, cheers for that ninja!!

total income £ per pupil £29187

might ask for half of that to hire help at home for him lol

OP posts:
SallyBear · 18/04/2012 21:08

Just looked up my DS's SS. £31714. Bloody hell that's a lot of money. Especially when you compare most MS schools are about £4.5-5k per pupil income.

devientenigma · 18/04/2012 21:20

lol Sally, it's only £2500 more than ours, you must be a more priviladged (sp) area Wink

OP posts:
EllenJaneisnotmyname · 18/04/2012 21:29

A third of pupils eligible for FSM? That's really high, dev.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 18/04/2012 21:31

It's 2.5% at my DS3's MS primary school.

SallyBear · 18/04/2012 21:34

Dev we live in M Keynes. Not that privileged, I can assure you!!

devientenigma · 18/04/2012 21:38

OP posts:
devientenigma · 18/04/2012 21:42

just had a look at DD MS school

£7165 per student

FSM medium at 20.9%

think we are defo in a deprived area lol

OP posts:
EllenJaneisnotmyname · 18/04/2012 21:45

DS3's MS school, low FSM, but only £3560 expenditure per pupil. We don't get much money in Glos.

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 18/04/2012 21:45

dd3's ss is 26.9 medium. It's in a really mixed area but takes children from all over.
