Buggy board for older children?

I thought I would try here first. I am having my second baby soonish and DD who is five and a half and has various medical and learning difficulties. She is quite unpredictable when out and I often find myslef running after her, she is in a lot of ways like a much younger child and since she outgrew her buggy a year or so ago I have found it hard to take her out on my own-she tends to run off or lie on the floor a lot!

Anyway she is very big for her age (in part due to the condition she has), she wears age 8-9 clothes so I am guessing she could break a standard buggy board easily. Which makes me wonder if there is anything out there designed to take the weight of an older child. Or would it still break the pram I wonder if it didn't take the weight enough? Anyone heard of a SN buggy board?

Little bump before I brave the main boards!

How about giving CEREBRA a call they have a design team that can design specific equipment/solutions for you.
Maybe they can help they may even be able to design something to stop her jumping off of it.

that would be great! only thing is I am worried she won't actually use it or something but I suppose I could always pass it on if not, there must be others who need this too.

I will give them a ring- they tried to ring me today funnily enough, not the design team, but the charity.

I would have loved to have something like that a year or two ago. It would have been lovely to have a sturdier buggy board that can be either sat or stood on, with some type of seat belt/restraint (even if just a wrist strap so they can't just bolt).

yes gap in the market I think! Have just given myself a stitch running after dd who disappeared off on her scooter after a boy who hadnt realised she was calling hello to him due to her unclear speech, she shot off and did stop at the small crossing but I had to run to make sure-not easy in the rain with a big bump in my way! So def will be trying something, may try and get a standard buggy board from ebay or similar to see how we get on initially-she's heavy though.

I used a buggy board for DS1 until he was 4.5 years because he was always running off (awaiting aspergers diagnosis or him). He's quite big for his age too. It was great BUT at times it's very hard work pushing and you have to be careful how you push it. I developed a long step - short step rhythmn. Also, see if you can get extensions for the handles so you're not leaning over your DD. Best of luck.

yes, the leaning over while pushing is miserable - killed my back!!

oh dear my back is bad at the best of times!and school is up a hill!

I think if you could get the handles extended it would be ideal...

thanks triggles, going to look out for one on ebay and local sites.
