my 5 year old DS with asd tonight asked DP to stop whistling as he has whistle-ism, we asked what he meant and he said he has aut-ism (that's the way he pronounces it) which means he doesnt like loud noises, but also has singing-ism as he doesn't like us singing and whistle-ism because he doesn't like the noise of someone whistling.

I thought it was interesting to hear his perspective of being on the spectrum :o

Grin That's funny.

My eldest says that his autism means he can't clean his bedroom.

And many other sentences start "I can't do..." and end with "because I'm autistic"

It's become a game now. I sing "what a load of rrrrrrrubbish" and tell him to bugger off and do it.

I'm waiting for my youngest to cotton onto "I can't do X cos I'm autistic" Grin

So funny.

My son used to say I can't tidy my room/ clean my shoes/ help you in any way whatsoever as - 'i've got no short term memory, sorry.'

He overheard us talking ages ago that his short term memory needed checking - it was - it was fine. He's got an ADHD diagnosis now.

Hilarious though, still uses it whenever he can.

Haha that's funny. Dd1 often tells us she can't possibly stop talking as 'its her adhds fault'
