My toddler, previously extremely articulate, has suddenly developed a severe stammer. Advice please!

My DS (now nearly 12) did this at about 2.5 to 3 years old. Took him to Dr's who referred him on to Speech Therapy, after waiting what seemed like forever for an appointment, he only went a couple of times as it disappeared as quickly as it developed.

There is a Michael Palin site that you can google and it has lots of advice.

I have a teenager who developed a stammer as a 4 year old. Apparenty stammering in young children is quite common and it is normally temporary and just lasts a few weeks. If they still have it after a few weeks then ask for referral to a speech therapist. My child is still seen at the Michael Palin centre and they are fantastic, but I really wouldn't worry for now.

Both of my children went through periods of stuttering around the age of 3. It seemed that they had so much to say and it was all trying to come out at the same time. It went on for a few months then gradually stopped.

If you are really worried then perhaps you should speak to your GP who will hopefully be able to reassure you.
