ear plugs? (as opposed to ear defenders)

I think dS2 still has some sensory imbalances, in particular oversensitive hearing.

Which is inconvenient as he says he wants to play the drums!

He's only 6.8 so it's not an immediate problem - he's young enough to not care about what people think of his ear defenders - but are there noise reducing earplugs on the market? He has a hand-drier phobia and it would be nice to think we could find a smaller less bright green alternative to his ear defenders at some point. He's quite aware of what people like doing and I think this will soon translate into an awareness of being different.

:)

Ooh lingle will you let me know if you find some suitable ear plugs please.

My ds gets very freaked by noises when we're out and about and it would be great to just be able to have a small pair of ear plugs always in my handbag. Have never bothered with ear defenders as I know we would never consistently carry them around every time we went out, and home and school are tailored around his hyperacusis so only needed when we are out.

We tried out all the different ones that they sold in boots. The best were some blue ones that were like mouldable wax. DS was expecting that the sound would disappear. It blocks out some sounds but not all.
This was for drumming lessons at school. the ear plugs and the ear defenders combined just didn't do it - so good luck. and if you find something that works - let us know

I've got these and they are brilliant.

Our hospital has a hearing service where people with sensory issues can be referred. They will make custom ear plugs if appropriate.

Alternatively, you could buy electric drum pads and turn the volume down and use headphones as well. My brother was a drummer in a band and this was the best option for home for everyone in the family!
