Anyone tried or use hyoscine/scopoderm patches?

Been Prescribed these for my 3yr ds for his excessive dribbling. Just wondering if anyone has experience with them as my ds has severe constipation treated with meds and the side effects are a bit worrying. Maybe I'm just being over cautious but I'd appreciate any opinions. X

DD has these patches excessive dribbling she is 6 and has been using them for
3 years. She is at present using 1/day but is ineffective. Personally I think the main problem is that she does not swallow (she is tube fed).Must admit constipation is not her problem but was told to watch for urine retention. BTW good friend uses them on her DD 14 for 8years and thinks they are a godsend

Thanks for commenting 2old2be, we've talked to a few people and have decided not to use them for the moment. Ds's OT said similar that he doesn't close his mouth causing him to dribble, so have us exercises to help with it. Also dr agreed it's not worth risking his other problems taking it. Smile

We had them for ds (21 months) he dribbles excessively, and has a tendency to choke on pooled saliva when he is asleep. They mad no difference at all to the amount of dribble tbh, and we stopped using them because he started to get infections under the patch.

Hey Wiggly!

We've been using patches (1/2 a pathch every 3 days) for about 8 months now. DS has an uncoridanted swallow so used to dribble lots (also tube fed).

We started on a 1/4 patch which was ineffective so went back to the doctors and increased the dose. He is so much better now, no rashes around his face from the dribble, dry clothes and he rarely needs suctioning now. We have been lucky in no noticable side effects - DS is on movicol anyway as always been a bit constipated, other than occasionally the area the patch has been will be a little red and dry.

Seems it is another treatment that works for some and not others. Worth a try though :)

We used them for my DD. She dribbles because she doesn't swallow properly. They worked really well for a while, and didn't seem to make her constipated (she has problems in this area and she is on Movicol as well) but after a couple of months her skin started to react to the sticky on the patches and was leaving burn like welts when we removed them so had to give them up unfortunatley.
