Ds with ASD keeps taking his nappy off -ready for the potty?

DS2 has borderline severe ASD - he is 4 :)

Recently he's started taking his nappy off a lot, sometimes when he's only done one wee in it and we are going through nappies at a rate of knots at the moment because of it!

This is a problem because, aside from using a lot of nappies, if he takes it off when he's in another room and I don't know he's done it he ends up having an accident on the floor!

I'm wondering if this means he is starting to find being wet uncomfortable and if he might be ready to start potty training?

So far he has shown absolutely no interest in the potty or toilet at all and seems quite frightened by them - he screams hysterically, writhing and kicking to the point where I cannot put him on it even just to get him to sit on it!

Does anyone have any advice on this? Help!

No real advice but my DD is doing this too.

Will watch with interest to see if anyone can help.

DS2 does this. He's not ready and has no interest in using the loo (he's nearly 6 nd too big to fit on a potty). I've heard from adults with ASD that the nappy removal is a sensory thing. Sitting in your own wee is uncomfortable, plus they're sweaty things.

DS2 completely strips off when it's warm and he's weed, so last summer, we tried him with washable pull ups and sat him onthe loo every single time he stripped off. This actually had an aversive effect and the behaviour stopped - he wanted his nappies back! The nappies he gets on the NHS now are attends and he can't remove those and doesn't try to.

Something else I had success with when i could get some to fit was dungarees - at least until he learnt to take them off!
