DD2 has gone down hill suddenly. All the behaviour that had settled has come back, she speech has gotten worse and her Autism traits are all back with force. :(
Im really hoping its just a school holidays but am so worried its more. She had regression at 2 years which was when the autism was picked up.
Whats the chances of 2 regressions? Can I do anything? Her speech is very concerning, Shes stuttering, cant find words and back to making up words for things she used to know words too.
Do I contact the SALT, Pead or shall i pop back to her SN nursery.

Sorry to hear about your dd. our Paed told us to contact her asap if we thought ds1(2.8) was regressing. I didn't really ask her what they can do so sorry I can't offer much advice but my first port of call would be the Paed.

Lisa - I'm sorry to hear this :( I don't have any knowledge of this at all so can't help, but I just wanted to send you my love and I'll keep my fingers crossed it's just the normal ebb & flow of a tired pre schooler x

Sorry meant to say, I have no
experience of this, the suggestion to see the paed was just to put your mind to rest.

ok, will see how she is once school starts back and then email paed, she knows us well sadly. Im tempted to call her SN nursery and ask if they can see her this week (they offer respite sessions over school holidays). They know her very well too.

So sorry to hear this Lisa.

When do you go back to school? Is it next Monday?

lisad123 · 09/04/2012 23:18

Its tuesday next week. There has been a number of changes of routines, which i get could explain the behaviour, but im just not sure it would explain the speech regression. They have always questioned weather she had word finding issues but shes been doing so well. I have spent most of the day listening to her repeat words that mean nothing over and over, use word jumbles for words she knows, and stumbling over simple sentances.

I agree with Merlincat.

Any kind of stress has a horrible effect on my ds2 (ASD). His language skills regress, and it was/is quirky to start with. He comes up with his own words for things, his use of the past tense becomes very creative "I wented-ed-ed to the shops" and that's when he hasn't just shut down completely for several hours. When he does talk it takes forever to get a sentence out because he gets stuck on the first few words and just repeats them over and over.

Little things that he's learned to tolerate over the years suddenly become a huge deal. The screaming and crying become horrendous. Once the stress has gone he goes back to being his usual self.

I would e-mail the Paed anyway, even if it's just for reassurance. My ds is 9 so it's behaviour that has become usual for him when stressed so I've become used to it over the years. It may be that your dd is the same, but if there's any chance that it might be something more then it would be good to have advice and help available.
