Ds is 21 months, he can do a wobbly walk holding onto a walker, but has never crawled, as he has very low tone in arms, but this morning he did it!!

A wonky, wobbly crab crawl to get a ball that rolled away from him. Dh and I ran around the house high fiving each other, while dds looked on bemused!

It has made my EasterSmile

and sorry for shameless proud mum moment.Blush

I am trying to sort out ds's file (because he needs a bigger one!) and it can get a bit grim reading negative reports, and all the appointments, but then something like this happens and it all just feels like bits of paper.

wonderful news hazey [bugrin]

hazeyjane · 07/04/2012 19:39

Well ds has crawled himself into exhaustion.

He looks so pleased with himself, it is so odd to see him do something independently, he is normally either clinging to me,or holding onto my hands or i am carrying him, so to see him be able to move independently is huge!

We have spent months and months and months, holding him on his front, moving his legs and arms for him, it is great to see him do it for himself (although he manages about 3 feet then collapses).

Thankyou for sharing in our glee!

What a wonderful Easter present!! There's nothing like crawling to improve those muscles so he'll be doing serious mileage in no time!!

hanbee · 07/04/2012 20:32

Today 3 feet, next month the world (or at least all the places in the house you don't want him to go!!)Wink

sneezecakesmum · 07/04/2012 20:45

Absolutely brilliant of your little DS. I love hearing good things.... they are so much more exciting when they the result of endless patience and work. [busmile]

Sleepstarved · 08/04/2012 12:15

Congrats Hazy, that must be a great feeling.
Can I ask you how you got Ds to do it?
DD is 13.5 mo and is commando crawling but mostly pulling along with her elbows. We have tried holding her in hands and knees position but she plants her head on the ground and cries or puts her bum down so come up to sitting.
She also protests when in hands and knees over your leg but will kneel against furniture and play happily if we put her there.
I think she doesn't have the strength in her arms as she doesn't straighten them when on her front but she won't tolerate anything that will strength her arms!

sneezecakesmum · 08/04/2012 12:25

sleepstarved..your DD probably feels insecure in a 4 point position (crawling position!) hence getting upset and crying. She is on the way though with strengthening her arms and legs and learning coordination with commando crawling, which is a great skill.

Out physio demonstrated a retained reflex (cant remember which one) but basically in a 4 point position if the head came up the bum went down and vice versa. Could there be an element of that in it? TNR????

Sleepstarved · 08/04/2012 14:03

Hi Sneeze,
DD certainly doesn't like the crawling position and is much happier kneeling or even standing against furniture.
DD doesn't put her bum down if her head goes up, its more like everything goes down and she just crumples or else throws her head and an arm back and arches her back to try and get upright again. (The latter when she is really upset)
Hazy, I am so sorry I hijacked your good news thread. I'd just like to copy your success!

SallyBear · 08/04/2012 14:23

Try draping your DD over a pile of pillows to get her to play. A lot of children don't like being on their tummies due to the back to sleep campaign Sad
