Hi all, our area senco has just put in a request for statutory assessment for ds (4) and I now have to write my supporting comments.

A few months ago when we got our diagnosis (asd) I was trawling the SN section and someone linked to a blog I think done by a guy who had written an excellelent supporting statement. I even printed it off at the time thinking it may be a useful reference one day and now I can't find it!

So if anyone knows of really good examples of supporting statements I would be eternally grateful!

Was it this blog? autisticson.wordpress.com/

My parental contribution was so long ago. People seem to put much more in these days. Mine was about 9 pages, included photos, (but beware of black and white photocopying) and ran through a list of headings supplied by the LA, early years/birth, communication, physical development, self help skills, family situation, what help you think they need at school etc.

That's the one! Thank you so much you're a genius!

I found it in the blogs, special needs section if you lose it again!

Ah, glad you found me! I used to shamelessly plug my blog on here in the hope that people would find it useful. It's really gratifying to know it has been of use. There's also stuff on there about getting a blue badge and all sorts of other bits and pieces that might help you. That's the intention anyway!

Thanks bsdad it's a great blog. I skimmed a bit of it when ds was first diagnosed and made a mental note to go back for a proper look and then my head imploded from all the meetings, letters, forms, salt appointments that have followed I never got round to going back! Slightly calmer now so will have a really good read. I loved the the bit about whether or not to tell family members or friends, it all rang so true!

Thanks everyone. It sounds like you've had your hands full, Catsdontcare! It's good to know readers are nodding in recognition. When I started posting, I needed to know it wasn't just me who felt this way about things or was experiencing things in this way. Knowing you're not alone in all this is important, I think.
