We had a private assessment done yesterday as I was sure that there was a problem, but as she is not "failing" in school, they would not look at it.
Turns out she is moderately dyslexic and her problems are mainly with her auditory memory and with her working memory too.
She will need help with the advanced phonics, spelling and in organisational skills. It was suggested that she begins to use the computer more for written work, and makes use special programmes for this to help with spell checks and a thesaurus, and that she would benefit from a programme that will read her work back to her to help with proofreading as she will not spot her own mistakes.
Where do I go from here - obviously I will be trying to get help from school, but somehow feel that it will be down to me to help most.
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions while I wait for the written report to come through?
