Hi everyone. DD 5 has ADHD and dyspraxia we have an appt with the behavioural therapy unit in the morning to assess DD and to see if they can offer any assistance. We have been waiting on this appt for a long time and her behaviour in that time has improved massively but she can still throw a major hissy fit when the mood takes her. What sort of interventions/ help should I be asking about? I am concerned with her temper outbursts lack of concentration and social skills but am a bit sceptical if any help will be forthcoming? Any advice gratefully received thanks.

Hi I have an 8 year old dd with ADHD and speaking from a mums point of view who's got an older girl with ADHD I'd really push and push for them to give you help with the social skills. We are still waiting for this and its something my dd1 desperatly needs but is unlikely to get. As girls get older their behaviour is less socially acceptable when they have ADHD so getting them help is paramount. Good luck x

Thanks Chundle. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of help out there for ADHD does there? I know there are social groups for children with autism but not for ADHD it seems crazy. I will push this tomorrow though.

No there's no help! We were lucky in the fact that we were put on a Living with ADHD course after dd got her dx but that is a rarity in most areas. Course was helpful but after that we were left to it. Dd doesn't even see a pead now as she isn't medicated we just have to ring if we have any problems! We are on the ever long waiting list to see CAMHS though!

CAMHS wouldn't see us said it wasn't their remit???? So hence we were referred to this behavioural unit not sure if this is the right place so we asked for appt to be brought forward incase we waited for 6 months and then went to see them and they told us it was the wrong service! We haven't seen the NHS consultant yet they will not see kids under 7!!!! We got meds from private consultant but decided not to give them to her. The vitamin supplement route has really worked wonders for her thoughSmile Dreading this appt last time I was at this centre they were trying to convince me DD had ASD because she has poor eye contact (hmm)

My dd doesn't have great eye contact I always thought it was because she was too busy to stop and make eye contact!! However we have only just realised at the age of 8 that she can't really follow a point! Her pead did say that she has some traits of AS but she is an extremley sociable child she just goes about it in an odd way ie says and does the wrong things etc.
I hope your app goes well it seems every area does things differently.

Hi Chundle just thought I would give a quick update. Appt seemed to go quite well. The outcome was we are scheduled in for an initial 4 appts where they will be looking at teaching about emotions, controlling anger etc, social stories and social skills through play. I will take any help going as there doesn't seem much about.
Funny you mentioned the eye contact DD makes very little in the way of eye contact unless ofcourse you say something that she is really interested in but like your DD she is super sociable.
Well here's hoping this helps good luck with your DD and getting some assistance that helps you.
