Summer trousers for a bum shuffler?

I dressed my 2.6 year-old DD in a pretty summer skirt last week, and she got a nasty rash from bum shuffling on the grass (she has low muscle tone). I felt really guilty and it got me thinking I'll need to invest in some lightweight and cool trousers for the summer that will also withstand shufflng on rough outdoor surfaces.

Anyone have any recommendations?

My bum shuffler is a boy so no exact comparisons. I buy cheapish comfy jogger style trousers for him as they will get ruined no matter how nice or expensive they are. This year the nice weather has seen two pairs binned from shuffling in the garden, patios etc just go through them. For a girl I would be tempted with some leggings under the skirt so at least she wouldn't get sore but would still be able to wear the pretty stuff.

my DD nearly 7 is a bum shuffler, for school she wears cullottes which just about covers her "lady bits". In summer I put her in VERY cheap leggings with a dress over the top she only wears white for "posh occasions" I just wish some one would make old fashioned navy knickers with elasticated legs for skinny legs (gym knickers to you oldies) Anymore ideas received with gratitude BTW Razamataz I never refuse friends castoff trousers ideal for outdoor wear.

Thanks for those ideas. I think leggings are probably the way forward for summer, so she can wear nice dresses over the top.

Just out of interest, do your DC wear Piedro boots? They're very hot in summer, but necessary for ankle support. I've seen some nice Piedro sandals online but we'll probably have to fork out for them ourselves (good use of DLA funds).

Leggings here too.
Pederios are a pain in summer but don't know what else would work. Kickers are good tolSmile
